The invention relates to a current sensor comprising an electric conductor (), through which a first current (I) can flow parallel to a first direction (R) and which comprises three regions () immediately following on from each other in the first direction (R). A middle region () of the three regions () comprises a conductor cross-sectional area that is smaller than a conductor cross-sectional area of each of the two outer regions () of the three regions (). A voltage sensor of the current sensor is designed to measure a first voltage between the two terminals () thereof. The first voltage is the same as a voltage applied to a measuring region () at least partially coinciding with the middle region (). An evaluation unit of the current sensor is designed to determine an existing current value of the first current (I) in accordance with an existing voltage value of the first voltage and a pre-defined resistance value of a first resistance of the measuring region ().

A battery comprises a plurality of battery modules, a plurality of monitoring units with a respective monitoring unit connected to a battery module, a battery control unit, and a first communication network to which the monitoring units are connected. The first communication network is configured to transmit data from or to the battery control unit. Furthermore, the battery comprises a second communication network configured to transmit an activation signal for activating a monitoring unit to a further monitoring unit.

A battery management unit includes a plurality of monitoring IC chips each configured to detect at least one operating parameter of at least one battery cell or battery module, which has a predetermined number of battery cells and is connected to a first bus. The battery management unit further includes a control unit and a basis monitoring IC chip which is likewise connected to the first bus and is configured to communicate with each of the monitoring IC chips via the first bus. The basis monitoring IC chip and the control unit are connected to a second bus and are configured to communicate with each other via the second bus. The basis monitoring IC chip and the control unit are arranged on a common circuit board.
