A tire pressure monitoring device is mounted on a wheel of a vehicle provided with a pneumatic tire. The device contains a tire pressure sensor and a transmitter which transmits signals wirelessly in transmission intervals, between which in each case there is a first transmission pause. A control device controls the sensor, the transmitter and the first transmission pause thereof. A source provides electrical energy to a rechargeable electric accumulator, in which electrical energy delivered from the source is stored until it is required. The state of charge of the rechargeable electric accumulator is monitored by a monitoring device and one or more of the first transmission causes is/are then ended as soon as enough electrical energy is stored in the rechargeable accumulator to operate the tire pressure monitoring device between two successive first transmission pauses until the conclusion of a predetermined number of transmission processes.

Method and device for operating a tire pressure monitoring device

Described is a procedure for controlling the transmission operation of a tire pressure monitoring device () arranged in a pneumatic tire of a vehicle, whereby data telegrams are transmitted in a normal mode of operation () in first time intervals, and there is a changeover from the normal mode of operation () to a pressure drop mode, if an inspection of the pressure signals indicates a drop in the pressure of a drop speed exceeding a pre-defined threshold value, and data telegrams are transmitted in the pressure drop mode in second time intervals, which are shorter than the first time intervals, and the tire pressure monitoring devices () are put into a travel starting mode () at the beginning of the travel by activation a roll sensor. Data telegrams are transmitted in the travel starting mode in shorter third time intervals as compared to the normal mode of operation.

The invention relates to a method for monitoring air pressure in vehicle tires using wheel electronics, which comprise a pressure sensor for measuring the air pressure present in the tire, a transmitter for transmitting pressure information, and a receiver for receiving interrogation signals, wherein a transmission activity of the wheel electronics is triggered by the reception of an interrogation signal, which is transmitted as a pulse train comprising a command section that encodes a transmission instruction for the wheel electronics. According to the invention, the pulse train comprises an adjustment section having several pulses before the command section.
