An apparatus for transporting folding packaging material forms in the tobacco-processing industry, particularly carton forms for cigarette hard packs that have been scored or pre-punched along fold lines, from a feed station to a processing station. A rotary table is mounted for rotation about an essentially vertical axis. The rotary table includes at least one receiving platform having oppositely located lateral holders defining limits for the packaging material. At least one of the lateral holders is movable from a feeding position into a holding position relative to the oppositely-located lateral holder.

Apparatus for transporting folding package material forms in the tobacco-processing industry

Apparatus for manipulating uniting bands having pairs of adhesive sides ahead of a splicer wherein the leader of a fresh web carrying one or more uniting bands is attached to the trailing end of an expiring web employs a base carrying a first reel which supplies a strip-shaped carrier of uniting bands, with one side of each uniting band adhering to the carrier, and a second reel which collects successive increments of the carrier subsequent to their separation from the uniting bands. The base further supports a spring-biased clamping member and is pivotable between a first position in which the carrier is remote from the leader of a fresh web, and intermediate position in which the clamping member begins to bias the leader of the fresh web against a back support, and a second position in which the other side(s) of a selected number of uniting bands contacts or contact the leader of the fresh web. The clamping member continues to urge the leader of the fresh web against the back support during a first stage of pivoting of the base back to the first position. The carrier becomes separated from the uniting band(s) adhering to the leader of the fresh web as soon as the base leaves its second position.

Apparatus for treating webs prior to splicing

Successive block-shaped arrays of cigarettes are advanced by one or more pushers on an endless conveyor through an elongated channel, defined by a stationary guide, on their way into a receptacle of a wrapping unit for the arrays. The pusher or pushers are decelerated during advancement through the discharge end of the channel, and the arrays are braked during such deceleration to maintain them in uninterrupted contact with the pusher or with the respective pushers until the arrays complete their movement into a predetermined portion of the receptacle. For example, the arrays can be braked by one or more mechanical devices and/or by one or more pneumatic devices.

Apparatus for transferring rod-shaped articles of the tobacco processing

Cigarettes or other rod-shaped articles of the tobacco processing industry are transported sideways from a source along an elongated horizontal path into at least one downwardly extending second path. If the inlet of a second path is to be sealed from the adjacent outlet portion of the horizontal path, a partition is moved across the inlet in the general direction of advancement of articles along the first path. The partition includes a carrier which is reciprocable along a slightly upwardly and forwardly inclined track, and a flexible belt which is tensioned by one or more springs and is trained over the leader of the carrier. A variable-capacity reservoir is located above the horizontal path opposite the inlet of each second path to accept some of the articles which are being moved back into the first path in response to movement of the partition across the inlet of the adjacent second path. A rotary member is installed adjacent the leader of the partition when the latter seals the inlet of the corresponding second path to thus further reduce the likelihood of damage to articles as a result of movement of the partition from its retracted position across the inlet of the respective second path.
