This disclosure provides systems, methods, and devices for wireless communication that support local light biasing for silicon photomultiplier (SiPM)-based photodetectors used in optical wireless communication (OWC). In a first aspect, a photodetector may include a silicon photomultipier (SiPM) having an input sensor configured to detect a light signal and an output interface configured to produce an output signal proportional to an intensity of the light signal detected at the input sensor, and a controllable light source positioned to emit a biasing light signal within a field of view of the input sensor, wherein the controllable light source is configured to emit the biasing light signal within a sensitivity range of the SiPM. When such photodetector is implemented in an OWC receiver, an analysis of the output signal allows the OWC receiver to adjust the biasing light at the controllable light source. Other aspects and features are also claimed and described.

Local light biasing for silicon photomultiplier-based optical wireless communication

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive, from a network entity via an optical wireless communication link, a first optical wireless signal using photodetectors positioned on a photodetector panel of the UE. The photodetector panel may include a hole around which the photodetectors are positioned and may be located a first distance from a curved optical device of the UE via which the first optical wireless signal is received. The UE may transmit, to the network entity via the optical wireless communication link, a second optical wireless signal using a light source of the UE that is located a second distance from the curved optical device via which the second optical wireless signal is transmitted. The second optical wireless signal may pass through the hole in the photodetector panel based on the second distance being greater than the first distance.

In an aspect, an OWC transmitter transmits, to an OWC receiver, a first DC bias parameter, receives, from the OWC receiver, DC bias feedback based on a measurement associated with an OWC link between the OWC transmitter and the OWC receiver, and transmits an OWC signal with a second DC bias parameter that is based on the DC bias feedback from the OWC receiver. In another aspect, an OWC receiver receives, from an OWC transmitter, a first DC bias parameter, transmits DC bias feedback based on a measurement associated with an OWC link between the OWC transmitter and the OWC receiver, and receives, from the OWC transmitter, an OWC signal having a second DC bias parameter based on the DC bias feedback.

According to some embodiments, an unmanned vehicle includes a power supply configured to supply an electrical power signal to a motor for propelling the unmanned vehicle, a wireless communication device configured to transmit or receive a radio frequency (RF) signal, and a motor feed antenna coupled to the power supply and the wireless communication device, the motor feed antenna configured to conduct the electrical power signal from the power supply to the motor, and to transmit or receive RF signals as an antenna for the wireless communication device.

Described herein are techniques for self-synchronization of wireless nodes. For example, the technique may involve determining a repetition rate for receiving a signal from another access point, wherein the repetition rate identifies the another access point. The technique may also involve receiving at the access point an unmodulated impulse radio (IR) ultra wide band (UWB) pulse train from the another access point during a transmission interval associated with the repetition rate. The technique may also involve synchronizing a first clock associated with the access point to a clock associated with the another access point based on the received unmodulated IR UWB pulse train.
