The constructing of a natural fracture model of a secondary reservoir in a field by using the information from a primary reservoir within a stacked 3D geological model. A fracture model may be constructed for a primary reservoir that incorporates a specific paleo-stress regime and information from a stacked 3D geological model, a deformation model, and a geomechanical model. Parameters such as a deformation model, brittleness index, and stress model may be extracted from the fracture model for a primary reservoir. A fracture model for the secondary reservoir is then constructed from the extracted parameters, and the fracture model is used to identify locations in the secondary reservoir for drilling and other operations.

Building natural fractures model using 3D stacked geological models

A determination of caprock integrity in naturally fractured reservoirs for fluid injection such as carbon capture and storage (CCS). The caprock integrity and seal integrity is determined via a fracture reactivation index (FRI). A mechanical earth model is determined to quantify the minimum principal in-situ stress in the caprock to determine the injection pressure limits and safeguard against undesired breakthrough into adjacent zones. A fracture model is generated using the mechanical earth model, and a critical stress analysis may be performed. After determination of a fracture density index and Coulomb Excessive Failure Function (CEFF), the fracture reactivation index (FRI) is determined.

A process for the determining of sweet spot intervals based on a combination of rock quality, an in-situ stress regime, natural fractures, and the identification of fluid flow paths from the interaction of hydraulic fracturing and formation attributes. The process may include determining geological components, determining mechanical earth model outputs, and determining sweet spot intervals using additional data from fracture calibration tests. Systems and computer-readable media for the determining of sweet spot intervals are also provided.

Systems and methods for developing hydrocarbon reservoirs based on constrained natural fracture parameters. A natural fracture modeling is generated for a reservoir, an initial set of fracture model parameters is determined, and a fracture model optimization is conducted to determine an optimized set of fracture model parameters. The optimized set of fracture model parameters are used as a basis for modeling the reservoir, and the modeling is used to generate a simulation of the reservoir.
