The present disclosure provides methods of decreasing a crop residue of a plant, enhancing the availability of a nutrient in a crop residue of a plant, increasing soil organic matter (SOM) with a crop residue of a plant, and reducing erosion with a crop residue of a plant by applying a composition comprising a culture of microalgae to the crop residue.

Methods of crop residual management with microalgae compositions

The present invention provides a mixture comprising: a) a first liquid composition comprising a culture of microalgae, the microalgae comprising whole pasteurizedcells; and b) a second liquid composition comprising a culture of microalgae, the microalgae comprising lysed pasteurizedcells; wherein a combination of the first liquid composition and the second liquid composition exhibits synergy. Also provided is a method of treating a plant, a plant part, or the locus surrounding the plant to enhance plant growth, the method comprising applying an effective amount of the mixture.
