A reciprocating machine with a friction bearing crank mechanism having a monitoring device monitoring operating parameters of the friction bearings of the crank mechanism via at least one sensor which is in connection with an evaluation device. At least one sensor is disposed near a part of the crank mechanism which moves in operation relative to the machine's housing. The connection of the sensor with the evaluation device is guided at least in part via the crankshaft. This provides a simple and effective monitoring option for the friction bearings of the crank mechanism and for other machine-specific parameters.

Reciprocating machine with operating parameter sensor

In a two-stroke internal combustion engine with at least one cylinder opeg into an exhaust passage with a diffuser-type flare whose shape is determined mainly by that of the lower contour, an optimum flow pattern in the exhaust passage is obtained by providing the exhaust passage with a nozzle-like throat in the immediate vicinity of the cylinder, which is formed by the lower contour and is followed by the diffuser-type flare, either immediately or at a distance.

Two-stroke internal combustion engine

Cylinder head of an internal combustion engine with more than two valves in overhead arrangement for each cylinder, which are actuated via rocker arms, each rocker arm being individually supported on the cylinder head by means of a bridge. A compact design is achieved by providing a valve bridge for actuation of every two valves of identical function, which valve bridge is attached to the bridge. At least one of the two rocker arms per cylinder acts on a valve bridge supported by the bridge, the pivots of the rocker arms having different distances from the center plane of the cylinder.

Cylinder head of an internal combustion engine

A hydraulically operated valve with controlled lift, in particular a fuel/gas injection valve for internal combustion engines, has a stop face fixed on the valve stem. For accurate control of the opening of the valve a stop cam is provided, which is drivn mechanically via a friction clutch, and which cooperates with the stop face. By rotating the cam through a predetermined angle the maximum valve lift will be obtained. The cam may be brought into contact with the stop face even in the closed position of the valve.

Hydraulically operated valve with controlled lift

In an exhaust system for two-stroke cycle engines, comprising an exhaust pipe whose front end, which is characterised by a constant cross-section, is followed by two or more conical sections, these conical sections are configured as diffusers, which are connected to the front end of the exhaust pipe with its constant cross-section by means of branch pipes of different length, and which open into a common exhaust header at the other end, which header in turn is connected to the exhaust tail pipe comprising a catalytic converter and/or a silencer. This arrangement has the effect that a pressure wave coming from the cylinder is twice reflected as a suction wave arriving at the still open exhaust port at different times due to the difference in pipe length. In this manner the effective duration of the suction wave is prolonged over that of comparable exhaust systems of a known kind.

Exhaust system for two-stroke cycle engines

In known two-stroke internal combustion engines with piston-controlled intake passages for the fresh charge and one or more exhaust passages for the exhaust gases, the actual direction of flow will deviate from the theoretical flow direction defined by the passage walls because of the influence exerted by the piston edge. The scavenge flow is deflected in the direction of the exhaust passage and the cylinder head, which will cause increased losses of fresh charge. This will considerably lower scavenge efficiency, and thus lead to a marked deterioration of engine performance, fuel consumption and exhaust emission. In the invention these disadvantages are avoided by aligning the flow guide vanes such that they form an angle, preferably of 90.degree., thus acting as a flow director.
