A linear drive system for an elevator installation having an elevator car includes a stationary part for alignment with a hoistway wall of the elevator installation and a movable part that moves along the stationary part. The movable part is connected to the elevator car or to a counterweight, wherein the stationary part is shaped so as to substantially envelope the movable part.

A method for refinishing a surface structure of shaft material of an elevator, which extends along a shaft, enables the use of image data to determine an absolute position and/or speed of an elevator car. The elevator includes the elevator car, which is movable in the shaft, a camera, which is arranged at the elevator car and generates the image data from the surface structure, and an evaluating unit, which determines the absolute position and/or the speed of the elevator car from the image data. The surface structure is refinished at least locally in order to increase a distinctiveness of the surface structure in the image data. The shaft material can be, for example, a guide rail, a fastening element of the guide rail, or a shaft wall.

A device can actuate and reset a safety gear in an elevator system. The device contains a pressure accumulator, possibly a compression spring, which, in case of need, can move at least two engagement elements of the safety gear essentially synchronously into an engaged position, and a remotely actuatable resetting device, which can retension the pressure accumulator into a ready position.

An elevator system can be operated while recording the energy consumption of at least one energy consumer of the elevator system and at least one traffic situation of the elevator system. At least one energy consumption value is determined for the recorded energy consumption and the recorded traffic situation, and the calculated energy consumption value is output to at least one output means.

An elevator installation includes a cage, a counterweight which balances the cage and a supporting and/or drive structure at which the cage and the counterweight are suspended. The elevator installation has a sound pick-up designed for detecting solid-borne sound generated at the counterweight.

An elevator has a car movable within a hoistway, a rack extending along the hoistway, the rack having a toothed profile with wave troughs and wave crests and a drive mounted in proximity to the rack so that the drive interacts with the rack to move the car. The drive includes a roller pinion unit fixedly mounted on a shaft and having a predetermined number of roller pinions arranged in a circle around the shaft and extending parallel to the shaft. The roller pinion unit interacts with the toothed profile of the rack. The drive also includes a motor unit configured to rotate the shaft. Optionally, the drive includes a brake unit configured to act on the shaft.

An elevator drive with a brake device has compression springs that act on brake levers, whereby brake linings generate a brake force on a brake drum. The more the brake linings wear due to abrasion, the smaller the distance of the plunger from the brake magnet housing becomes. Should the plunger come into contact with the brake magnet housing, the braking capacity of the brake linings is completely eliminated creating an operating condition that is dangerous for elevator users. A switch is provided that detects a minimum distance. The switch can be arranged on the plunger of the brake magnet and detect the minimum distance to the brake magnet housing or, in the case of a retrofit, the switch can be arranged on the brake magnet rod and, for example, detect the distance of the second joint from the brake magnet housing, and at the minimum distance the switch switches.

An elevator has a mechanical linear drive arranged laterally at an elevator shaft head to drive at least one belt that moves a car and a counterweight in the shaft. The belt is fixed in the shaft at opposite ends and extends about a drive wheel of the elevator drive. Deflection rollers of the drive determine the angle of encirclement of the belt on the drive wheel.

A belt has at least two fiber strands which have synthetic fiber threads twisted in themselves and are designed for acceptance of force in longitudinal direction. The strands are arranged at a spacing relative to one another along the longitudinal direction of the belt and are embedded in a belt casing. At least one of the strands comprises an electrically conductive indicator thread which is twisted together with the synthetic fiber threads of the strand, wherein the indicator thread is arranged outside the center of the fiber bundle. The indicator thread has a breaking elongation (&#x3b5;) which is smaller than the breaking elongation (&#x3b5;) of individual synthetic fiber threads of the strand. It can be electrically contacted so that an electrical monitoring of the integrity thereof is made possible.

A rope apparatus includes two ropes of synthetic fiber strands arranged for taking up force applied in a lengthwise direction. The ropes are arranged a predetermined distance apart and are fixed by a rope sheathing forming a fixed link running in the lengthwise direction between the two ropes. The rope apparatus also has at least one reinforcement element for the mechanical reinforcement of the rope sheathing.

A device for remote maintenance and monitoring of an elevator installation has at least one input for the detection of first signals from an elevator control and/or from a sensor, at least one output of second signals to a telecommunications network and a processor and a data memory. A set of remote maintenance functions is stored in the data memory and each of these remote maintenance functions is selectively activatable.

An apparatus for moving a car along a travel path along guide rails includes a linear drive having a fixed first platform attached to the car and connected by springs with a movable second platform. Holding-units are attached to both platforms for engaging the guide rails and operating-units are connected between the platforms for relative movement. The holding-units and the operating-units include piezoelectric actuators that are selectively energized to move the car.
