A power distribution system utilizes direct-current (DC) electrical power. A distribution cable carries DC power from a distribution unit to an edge device. The edge device provides a communication connector with DC power for use by a load device. The edge device optionally includes an energy storage device, such as a rechargeable battery, to allow the edge device to provide more power to the load device than it is receiving from the power distribution unit for some period of time.

DC to DC edge device

A lighting module includes a connector having a first contact and a second contact, a first device that emits ultraviolet (UV) light, and a second device that emits visible light. The UV light emitted by the first device is in a first wavelength range of 200-315 nm and the visible light emitted by the second device is in a second wavelength range of 400-750 nm. The first device emits substantially no light at a wavelength greater than 550 nm. Both the first device and the second device are coupled to the first contact. The lighting module may be used in a disinfection device.

Disinfection device

The commissioning of a smart building technology system is implemented with the use of a binding table in a relational database to bind one or more sections of virtual devices representing, e.g., lights, sensors, actuators and room controls, to the network addresses of physical devices. Plans for redundant sections in large building are created in terms of virtual devices and logical functions (such as programmed groups of devices, scenes and recipes) without direct binding to physical devices. Software creates reference copies of the plan for redundant sections the building, through use of a binding table, and attaches the reference copy to the location of the respective section on a master layout of the building. The plan modeled with virtual devices can be edited or reprogrammed across all reference copies, even after binding to physical devices and commissioning is completed.

Commissioning smart lighting systems

Power is provided to a powered device (PD) over a data cable from power sourcing equipment (PSE). A signature resistance of the device is detected through the data cable. If the signature resistance is in a first range, power is provided to the PD from the PSE over the data cable in a matter compliant with an IEEE standard for power over Ethernet (PoE). If the signature resistance is in a second range, information is received from the PD over the data cable and the existence of the PD is exposed by the PSE over a computer network. A command to control the PD is received by the PSE over the computer network and a power signal is provided to the PD from the PSE based on the command and the received information.

Remote dimming of lighting

An LED load is specified to be driven at a first voltage level for maximum brightness. A driver for the LED load determines a first current level consumed by the LED load while the first voltage level is applied to the LED load. Information is received to set a brightness level of the LED load and a second current level is calculated based on the first current level and the information received. Electrical power is then provided to the LED load at the second current level. A second voltage level of the electrical power provided to the LED with the second current level is unregulated and is less than the first voltage level.

Constant current dimming of constant voltage loads

The present invention provides a multi-channel light sensor comprising a fragmented lens and a camera sensor; wherein the fragmented lens comprises lens elements; and wherein each lens element comprises an own optical axis and is adapted to direct light from a spatial area onto the camera sensor such that the light intensities of different spatial areas are spatially resolved on the camera sensor. Furthermore, a system is provided, which comprises at least one such multi-channel light sensor, at least one lighting device, and a light management device; wherein the light management device is adapted to receive the light intensities of the different spatial areas from the multi-channel light sensor; and wherein the light management device is adapted to control the at least one lighting device on the basis of the light intensities of the different spatial areas.

Multi-channel light sensor

A lighting system comprises at least one network-capable infrastructure device and a commissioning device. The infrastructure device, such as a ballast or a luminaire, includes a first communication unit configured to communicate with at least one other infrastructure device, and a second communication unit. The commissioning device comprises a commissioning communication unit configured to communicate with the second communication unit of the infrastructure device. The infrastructure device receives a key information via the second communication unit and communicates via the first communication unit with the at least one other infrastructure device using the received key information.

Secure network commissioning for lighting systems

The invention provides a commissioning device for commissioning building technology devices, in particular operating devices for lighting means, the commissioning device comprising at least one optical sensor, in particular a 3D camera, configured to obtain images containing spatial information of three dimensions and to receive optical communication signals emitted from a building technology device, at least one processing unit configured to process received optical communication signals and to process the spatial images. The at least one processing unit is configured to compute spatial position of the building technology device by processing the produced spatial images and by evaluating the spatial information, wherein the at least one processing unit is configured to process the optical communication signals received from the building technology device in order to obtain information identifying the building technology device, and wherein the at least one processing unit is configured to associate the computed spatial position of the building technology device with the processed visual signals.

Commissioning device for commissioning installed building technology devices

A luminaire includes a phosphor that emits non-coherent, visible light when excited, a laser diode that emits a laser beam to excite the phosphor, and a driver that outputs electrical DC power at or above the voltage level necessary to drive the laser diode. The current output from the driver to the laser diode is modulated with a code, preferably a random generated code. A visible light sensor detects light emitted from the phosphor and provides a feedback signal, which contains the code under normal operation. If the proper code is not detected in the feedback signal, power output to the laser diode is immediately ceased or reduced to a level safe for the human eye.

Assigning controllable luminaire devices to control groups

A lighting system includes a master lighting device, a control unit, and one or more slave lighting devices. The master lighting device includes a power input, a light emitting component, a memory device, a processor, and a network interface to communicate over a network. The memory device stores computer readable code that when executed by the processor, causes the master lighting device to receive a message that includes brightness information over the network, receive information regarding a characteristic of power received at the power input, control a brightness level of the light emitting component based on the brightness information and the information regarding the characteristic of the power, and send a message to the slave lighting devices to control their brightness level. The control unit includes a network interface send the message that includes the brightness information over the network.

Dual-mode dimming of a light

A unique identifier may be stored in an RFID chip, a bar code, or other methods of passive storage associated with the networked light bulb. The unique identifier may be accessed while the light bulb is unpowered and before the light bulb is put into service. Information is stored in a database that identifies an association between the unique identifier and a particular network. If the light bulb is put into service, the light bulb may send the unique identifier over the network. A device may receive the unique identifier and query the database for information related to the unique identifier. If the unique identifier is associated with the particular network that the light bulb is connected to, the light bulb may be added as an authorized node on the particular network.

A webcam privacy shield is magnetically attached to a bezel of an electronic display that includes a webcam. The webcam privacy shield is positioned in either a shielded position where light is blocked from entering the lens of the webcam by positioning an opaque portion of the webcam privacy shield over the lens of the webcam, or an operating position where light is allowed to enter the lens of the webcam by positioning a transparent portion of the webcam privacy shield of the lens of the webcam. Sliding the webcam privacy shield between the shielded position and the operating position allows the user to selectively maintain their privacy from the webcam, or use the webcam.
