A multichannel selective call receiver ( ) includes-a receiver ( ), a controller ( ), a baud detector ( ) and a memory ( ). The controller is adapted to control the receiver in receiving information on a channel ( ). The information on the channel includes mandatory frames having information fields. If the information fields in a mandatory frame on the channel do not indicate more information for the multichannel selective call receiver in the rest of the mandatory frame, the controller controls the receiver to receive information on other channels ( ) during the rest of the mandatory frame. The information on the channel and the other channels is processed in accordance with channel priority as indicated in a channel list stored in the memory.

Channel monitoring by a multichannel selective call receiver

A communication device ( ) comprising a receiver ( ) for receiving coded messages transmitted on one or more channels. There is a micro-processor ( ), in communication with the receiver ( ) and a frequency synthesizer ( ) coupled to both the micro-processor ( ) and the receiver ( ) to thereby control reception of the channels. The communication device ( ) also has a memory ( ) storing a group of-channel frequencies, wherein the micro-processor ( ) is adapted, in combination with the frequency synthesizer ( ), to control the receiver ( ) to scan at least some of the channels during baud detect periods of a protocol cycle associated with at least one of the channels. Further, the micro-processor ( ) cyclically offsets a start of the baud detect periods after completion of a protocol cycle.

Selective call receiver and method for detecting mandatory frames of a channel protocol

A pager ( ) for operating within the communication environment of a cyclical frame based synchronous selective call system. The pager ( ) has a receiver ( ) for receiving selective call signals, a controller ( ), a memory ( ) to store signal parameters, a demodulator ( ) and a decoder ( ). In operation, receiver ( ) processes selected frames within a selective call signal transmitted on a channel. During such operation, controller ( ) determines whether to control receiver ( ) to continue monitoring the channel or to scan for or select another channel to monitor for other selective call signals. A count of missed selected frames of a selective call signal is compared with a threshold count. This threshold count is based upon one of the signal parameters indicative of the selected frames. Controller ( ) also schedules non-selected frames for processing when this signal parameter is greater than a predetermined number.

Multichannel selective call receiver

A data processing system having register controllable processor speed includes a central processor (110) which operates at a selectable address bus clock speed (122) and subsystem components (115) also having selectable speeds. Subsystem clock provision conductors (124) independently provide a selectable subsystem clock speed for each of the subsystem components. Addressable registers (200, 250, 300) store a plurality of optimum address bus clock speed and subsystem clock speed values. A selector circuit (137, 138) reads a first addressable register to provide the optimum speed value for use as the selectable address bus clock speed of the central processor and reads a second addressable register to provide the optimum speed value for use as the selectable subsystem clock speed of a first subsystem clock component.

Data processing system having a register controllable speed

A communication system (105) provides roaming instructions within a signal having frames of data. The communication system (105) includes a message transmission device (110) for batching information into a frame of data and transmitting, within a predetermined geographic area, the information on a radio communication channel. The frame includes at least frame offset information for reception by a data communication receiver (115) located within the predetermined geographic area for receiving the information. The data communication receiver (115) stores a base frame number associated with a base frame during which the data communication receiver (115) is assigned to wake for message reception. The frame offset information is indicative of a substitute frame that is relative to the base frame. The data communication receiver (115) is to wake for message reception thereafter in the substitute frame rather than the base frame.
