Display packaging constructions incorporating a plastic blister cavity, sandwiched between layers of paperboard material, preferably corrugated paperboard material, are disclosed. Variations of the basic construction include a high-density packaging configuration, display packages having security features for precluding unauthorized access to the interior of the display package, and a reclosable construction to enable the display package to be used as a storage container. When corrugated paperboard is used for the layers, the corrugations may be arranged to extend transversely to one another, to resist warping caused during the heat sealing process. A plastic blister construction is provided, having a forward stabilizing foot, and a rear concavity, for receiving a similar foot from a like blister, for facilitated nested packing together of pluralities of such blisters.

A shipping system for packing and transporting products, such as case ready food items, in which the products require a certain amount of separation between layers. The shipping system comprises a shipping unit, formed by at least one substantially open-topped tray, preferably two or more, that are stacked atop one another, with a cover placed atop the uppermost tray, and held together by banding or strapping. Preferably, the tray(s) and cover are fabricated from corrugated paperboard material.

Case ready stackable tray designs

A passive interlock structure for use in containers (such as cartons and trays), particularly those fabricated from corrugated paperboard and the like, which permits the facilitated aligning of vertically stacked containers. The passive interlock structure feature includes recesses formed in the tops or bottoms of the containers, and corresponding complementary low planar projections in the bottoms or tops of the containers.

A carton is provided with an automatic bottom panel, which extends from a side panel, and has two converging reverse-scored fold lines, which extend outwardly from the side panel. One end flap featuring an angled score is folded up from the automatic bottom panel and is glued to its body panel. Adhesive is applied only above the diagonal folding score, leaving the unglued section free to fold in reverse in the bottom formation. The other end panel bottom flap is folded inwardly in the box joining process and a second of that flap with another diagonal score is folded in reverse for glue application. As the main panels are folded in the final gluing process the reverse folded glued section adheres to the outside surface of the previously mentioned major bottom flap. As the carton is brought into square during the erection process, the flaps self-form into a solid, full-overlapping bottom.

Self-deploying carton bottom

An improvement is provided for a pizza-style paperboard container. The improvement includes first and second separation lines extending through first and second lateral panels, respectively. An additional fold line is provided in the first lateral panel at a location rearward of the first separation line, the material therebetween defining a closure flap. The first lateral panel includes opposed side panels. These side panels include a pre-formed hinge. The second lateral panel also includes opposed side panels. As assembled, the side panels of the first lateral panel are exterior to the side panels of the second lateral panel. After the carton is first assembled in a conventional manner, it may be reduced in size by breaking the carton in two along the separation lines. The closure flap is then pushed inward while the hinges of the outer side panels capture the inner side panels.
