A switch drive circuit uses a single transformer to transfer control signals to a secondary side for control of the switch along with power to a secondary side circuit to drive the switch in response to the control signals. The present application relates to an isolated drive circuit, of the type commonly employed as high side drivers, for providing a drive signal to a semiconductor switch. The isolated drive circuit comprises a transformer with primary and secondary windings. The circuit further comprises a primary side circuit having a plurality of switches arranged in a bridge configuration with the primary winding positioned across the output of the bridge and a secondary side circuit connected to the secondary winding of the transformer and having a drive circuit output for providing a drive signal to the semiconductor switch. The advantage of this approach is that the entire circuit can be constructed as a module for use as a single component on a circuit board without requiring additional external components.

The present application relates to power converters, particularly switch mode power converters sharing a load in which the converters are operated to share stresses between them. The application provides a controller () in which a stress share control loop () is provided to ensure the associated converter is operating at an average stress. The stress share control loop has a proportional and an integral term in its feedback path. The integral term may be enabled or disabled. In use, the integral term is enabled in all but one controller.

A DPWM () has a locked loop () which receives an input clock signal and provides an out-of-phase delayed clock at the output of each cell in the loop (). The present invention relates to power converters of the type known generally as switch mode power converters (SMPCs). In particular, the present invention addresses the problem of reducing thermal stress across the phases of a multi phase converter. Specifically, a method of controlling a multi-phase switch mode power arrangement is provided. The multi-phase arrangement comprises a plurality of phases configured to deliver DC power to a common load. The method comprises the steps of: determining the thermal stress of each phase along with at least one other stress for each phase and controlling the share of DC power provided by the individual phases in an effort to equalize the thermal and other stress across the individual phases.
