A cardiac device for implantation proximate an exterior of a heart, the cardiac device including an inflatable bladder including an inner wall and an outer wall, wherein the inner wall itself is more expandable than the outer wall itself such that the inflatable bladder itself is configured to deform substantially inwardly to exert localized pressure against a region of the heart when the inflatable bladder is positioned adjacent the region of the heart and inflated.

Devices and methods for providing localized pressure to a region of a patient's heart to improve heart functioning, including: (a) a jacket made of a flexible biocompatible material, the jacket having an open top end that is received around the heart and a bottom portion that is received around the apex of the heart; and (b) at least one inflatable bladder disposed on an interior surface of the jacket, the inflatable bladder having an inelastic outer surface positioned adjacent to the jacket and an elastic inner surface such that inflation of the bladder causes the bladder to deform substantially inwardly to exert localized pressure against a region of the heart.

The application discloses a noise attenuating system () for use with a positive airway pressure system providing a flow of gas, comprising: an expansion chamber () having a volume; an intake tube () having an inlet () and outlet port or portion separated by a length, wherein a portion of the inlet port or portion extends outside of the expansion chamber; and either: a noise attenuator () having a bottom and protruding sidewall forming a cavity, wherein the noise attenuator is positioned near the inlet portion of the intake tube such that a portion of the intake tube extends into the cavity of the noise attenuator; or: an acoustic deflector () positioned near the outlet port or portion of the intake tube, wherein noise is deflected away from the outlet port or portion of the intake tube. The application also discloses positive air pressure apparatus () comprising a housing (), first and second acoustic chambers, an intake vent or port () in the first chamber, an inlet port or tube coupling the first and second chambers, a noise attenuator in the first chamber, and a blower unit () in the second chamber.

Systems and methods for providing low-noise positive airway pressure

A catheter integral with a valved needle-free connector provides a safety catheter device configured to receive a blunt cannula and sharp needle forming an insertion mechanism. The sharp needle is mounted within a needle tube and a control handle is used to slide the sharp needle out of and into the protective needle tube. When the insertion mechanism is mounted to the connector and the control handle is used to slide the sharp needle out of the tube, a blunt cannula first moves into contact with and enters the bore of the valve mechanism of the connector opening it and protecting it from damage that may be caused by the sharp needle. The sharp needle is then extended through the connector and extends out the distal end of the catheter so that a venipuncture procedure may be performed to properly locate the catheter in the patient's circulatory system. Once located, the needle may be retracted into the insertion mechanism, the insertion mechanism disconnected from the connector, and discarded.

Safety catheter system and method

A tissue anchor includes an anchor member formed from a generally flexible material. An activation member, which may be a tensioning member, causes proximal and distal end portions of the anchor member to move toward each other into a shortened configuration suitable for anchoring against the tissue. The tissue anchor can optionally be deployed and activated using a catheter device.

The present invention relates to an external heart device, having a layered band dimensioned to be received around a patient's heart, which also includes at least one fillable chamber between the layers in the band that functions to apply localized pressure to the outside of the heart when filled. More particularly, the fillable chambers are positioned such that they exert an inward radial force on a heart valve. Areas between the fillable chambers may also be sized and positioned to form a bridge of little to no pressure over the vascular structures of the heart.

The systems and methods described herein provide a quiet, light-weight, and portable system and apparatus for providing positive air pressure to a patient. The systems may include a housing with an inlet port, a vibrationally isolated blower unit positioned in an inner chamber, and an outlet port for delivery of the pressurized air from the blower unit. The inlet port and outlet port may each have a tube with dimensions that are defined in relation to the inner chamber so as to reduce the overall noise output of the system.
