A system determines whether a received search query includes an entity name, determines whether to rewrite the received search query based on information relating to prior searches involving the entity name, and rewrites the received search query when it is determined that the received search query should be rewritten. The system further determines whether to provide a suggestion of rewriting the received search query, as a rewriting suggestion, based on information relating to prior searches involving the entity name when it is determined that the received search query should not be rewritten. The system also generates the rewriting suggestion when it is determined that the rewriting suggestion should be provided. The system performs a search based on one of the received search query and the rewritten search query to obtain search results, presents the search results, and presents the rewriting suggestion when it is determined that the rewriting suggestion should be provided.

Query rewriting with entity detection

Methods, systems, and computer program products are provided for measuring effectiveness of content items included in a campaign. One example method includes providing a corpus of campaigns, where a campaign defines parameters for presentation that specify circumstances under which content items are presented to users in response to requests. The corpus is filtered by identifying one or more candidate campaigns, where each of the identified candidate campaigns is associated with a geographic region and includes one or more constraints that permit pausing distribution of content items without compromising campaign goals. For each candidate campaign, one or more experimental geographic locations included in the geographic region are determined that are substantially representative of the region. Presentation of at least one of the content items is paused for a time period, and content item effectiveness is measured by comparing resource conversions for experimental and control geographic locations.

Measuring content item effectiveness

A system may determine an extent to which a document is selected when the document is included in a set of search results, generate a score for the document based, at least in part, on the extent to which the document is selected when the document is included in a set of search results; and rank the document with regard to at least one other document based, at least in part, on the score.

A system plots results of a data search. The system executes one or more search queries to search stored data. The system receives results of the executed one or more search queries, where the results are orderable by at least one search characteristic. The system designates a visual representation for each of the results. The system plots each of the visual representations on a multi-dimensional graphical display, where at least one dimension of the multi-dimensional graphical display corresponds to the at least one search characteristic.

Systems and methods for sorting and displaying search results in multiple dimensions

A system may determine a document inception date associated with a document, generate a score for the document based, at least in part, on the document inception date, and rank the document with regard to at least one other document based, at least in part, on the score.

A method may include receiving a document and an initial score for the document; determining that there has been a decrease in a rate or quantity of new links that point to the document over time; classifying the document as stale in response to the determining; decreasing the initial score for the document, resulting in an updated score; and ranking the document with regard to at least one other document based, at least in part, on the score.

Document scoring based on link-based criteria

A predicted performance metric of a candidate advertisement in an advertising slot can be received and compared to a baseline predicted performance metric for the candidate advertisement. A target bid associated with the candidate advertisement can be adjusted based upon the comparison, and the adjusted bid can be submitted to an auction for the advertising slot.
