A device for the quick and uncomplicated design of any sewing pattern or embroidering pattern permits creation of a raw draft of the pattern (11) on a graphic display (8). The raw draft is stored and the stored shape is used as a basis for elaboration and adaptation to the realization by the sewing machine. The elaboration and transformation into stitch sequences is also performed on an appropriate display (10), with the raw draft being displayed in the manner of a background. The transformation into individual stitches necessary during the editing process is largely automated by different auxiliary functions without excluding manual corrections.

Device for generating and programming stitch patterns

Elementary patterns are sewn in a sewing machine wherein the work can be fed by increments T. The making of a pattern involves repeatedly moving the work in and counter to the feed direction between starting the final needle penetration points which are spaced apart a distance nT wherein n is a whole number exceeding one. This results in the making of several continuous thread legs each having a length nT which can exceed, at least slightly, the maximum bight range of the needle and each extending all the way between the starting and final penetration points. In order to form a second elementary pattern which intersects the first pattern, the work is fed to move the needle to an intermediate penetration point, for example, midway between the starting and final penetration points, and the work is then fed to position the needle at the starting penetration point of the second pattern. One or more stay stitches are formed at the starting and/or final penetration point of each elementary pattern in order to increase the amount of thread in the pattern and to reduce the likelihood of deformation of the work under the action of tensioned thread legs.

Method of making sewn patterns with sewing machines

A row of at least two coherent cruciform elementary patterns of stitches is formed in a zig-zag sewing machine by first making a first series of at least two zig-zag stitches and by thereupon making a second series of at least two zig-zag stitches which are mirror images of the stitches of the first series and each of which crosses a different stitch of the first series of stitches. The needle is caused to penetrate into the work in the middle of the first or last stitch of the first series of stitches prior to making the second series of stitches. Each stitch of the first and second series of stitches includes at least one uninterrupted length of thread. Only one crossing point of the stitches which form the first and second series is located at a needle perforation point. The first row of at least two cruciform elementary patterns can be followed by any desired number of additional rows in any desired orientation to form ornamental or other arrays of rows of cruciform patterns.

Method of making groups of sewn patterns with zig-zag sewing machines

An auxiliary device for sewing machines comprises tappets and switches in the coupling parts of the presser foot shaft. The tappets are arranged in accordance with a determined code and they activate a combination of the switches. The switches are connected to an electronic circuit in which the coded information relative to the presser foot is compared with information characterizing the set up of the machine for a desired sewing operation. A display is activated for indicating if both sets of information coincide or do not coincide with each other so that the user knows if the correct presser foot is inserted.
