An adjustable foil apparatus for use with a paper making machine includes an elongated upper assembly positionable relative to a forming fabric of a paper making machine, the upper assembly defining a deflector surface extending along a length thereof, and an elongated base mountable to a paper making machine. An adjustment mechanism being coupled to the base and movable relative thereto, for adjusting an overall height of the foil apparatus, the upper assembly being configured for selective movement toward and away from the forming fabric of a paper making machine. The foil apparatus being positionable relative to an upstream forming element. The deflector surface configured to deflect water passing over the upstream forming element towards the forming fabric for creating movement in a slurry stock of a paper making machine for reducing flocculation.

Adjustable foil apparatus for paper making machine

An adjustable foil apparatus for use with a paper making machine includes an elongated upper assembly having a forming element positionable relative to a forming fabric of a paper making machine and an elongated base mountable to a paper making machine. The upper assembly being coupled to the base and movable relative thereto for adjusting an overall height of the foil apparatus, the forming element being configured for selective movement toward and away from the forming fabric of a paper making machine. The adjustable foil apparatus including an adjustment mechanism fixed to the base, the adjustment mechanism including a slide bar movable relative to the base along an axis of the base and configured to move the forming element relative to the base and toward and away from the forming fabric.

A method of dewatering a forming fabric in a paper making machine includes moving a forming fabric carrying a slurry stock through a dewatering area of the paper making machine; positioning a foil apparatus for supporting the forming fabric, the foil apparatus having a foil member defining a work surface and a pulse generator coupled to the foil member adjacent the work surface; and forming a nip between the work surface and the forming fabric by positioning the pulse generator relative to the work surface.

The element can comprise an impingement shoe for a forming section of a papermaking machine. The opening can be defined by a plurality of laminar segments, at least some of which define a paper side surface of the element, and which segments can be spaced apart by additional laminar segments or other spacing means. Laminar segments for use in the element, a method of constructing the element, and a papermaking machine, or a forming section thereof, including the element are also provided.

A shower device for a papermaking machine is provided which includes a longitudinally extending hollow member having an inlet end adapted for connection to a pressurized water source. A slot extends longitudinally along at least a portion of the hollow member. The slot includes opposing edges and a strip of material is slideably engageable with the hollow member so that the hollow member is substantially sealed along the edges of the slot when the strip is installed. The strip of material includes a plurality of spaced apart shower nozzles. This allows a plurality of shower nozzles on a papermaking machine to be quickly and easily replaced by slidably removing the nozzle strip from the slot and slidably inserting a replacement strip of nozzles into the slot.
