An open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type has a rotor, a line spool coaxial with the rotor, and a bail for winding a line on the spool. Two attachments are provided on the rotor. Two mounting elements carrying the bail are so rotatably mounted on a respective attachment that the bail is pivotable about a bail axis perpendicular to the rotor axis, between a folded-in line-winding position and a folded-out position in which it is released of the line. One attachment has an open chamber. The damping device has an elastic damping element provided in the chamber under one mounting element which has a lug for cooperating with the damping element. The damping element and the lug are so positioned that the lug, when the bail is pivoted from its folded-out position to its folded-in line-winding position, engages the damping element in order, during the final phase of the pivotal movement, to compress the damping element so as to bring about a gentle braking of the rotational movement.

An oscillating mechanism in a fixed-spool fishing reel of the closed-face type has a supporting plate mounted in the frame of the fishing reel. The reel has a handle whose shaft extends through the supporting plate. A first gear is nonrotatably connected to the shaft of the handle. A second gear is supported by the supporting plate and meshes with the first gear. The second gear has a smaller diameter than the first gear and carries an eccentric pin. A slide is connected to the line spool of the fishing reel for oscillating the line spool when the handle is turned. The slide has an elongate recess in which the eccentric pin engages for oscillating the slide and, hence, the line spool when the handle is turned. The slide further has a guide slot in which the shaft of the handle engages as a guide pin.

Oscillating mechanism in a fixed-spool fishing reel of the closed-face

An open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type has a rotor, a line spool coaxial with the rotor, a bail for winding a line onto the spool and a detachable trigger mechanism. Two attachments are provided on the rotor. Two mounting elements supporting the bail are so rotatably mounted each on one attachment that the bail is pivotal about a bail axis perpendicular to the rotor axis, between a folded-in line-winding position and a folded-out position in which it is released of the line. One attachment has a recess. The trigger mechanism consists of a lever having a pivot pin engaging in the recess. The lever is rotatable about a first axis parallel to the bail axis and defined by the pivot pin between a first position and a second position. The lever is rotatably connected about a second axis parallel to the bail axis, to one mounting element by means of a driver pin adapted, upon rotation of the lever from the first position to the second position, to rotate the mounting element and thereby pivot the bail from its folded-in line-winding position to its folded-out position.

An open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type has a rotor, a line spool, a bail for winding a line onto the line spool, and a detachable trigger mechanism. Two mounting elements supporting the bail are so rotatably mounted each on one attachment on the rotor that the bail is pivotal between a folded-in line-winding position and a folded-out position in which it is released of the line. The trigger mechanism has a support element releasably mounted on one of the attachments and carrying a pin on which a trigger is mounted for pivotal movement between a first position and a second position. A driver eccentrically engages the mounting element mounted on the above-mentioned attachment. A cam is arranged on the trigger in order, during the pivotal movement of the trigger from the first position to the second position and in cooperation with the driver, to turn the mounting element from its position of rotation corresponding to the folded-in line-winding position of the bail, to its position of rotation corresponding to the folded-out position of the bail.

A click mechanism in a fishing reel is adapted to produce a click sound on relative rotation between a shaft having a first member non-rotatably connected thereto, and a second member which is rotatably mounted on the shaft. The click mechanism comprises a snap-action click ring which is provided between the first member and the second member. First teeth are formed on the side of the first member facing the snap-action click ring. Second teeth are formed on the side of the second member facing the snap-action click ring. The snap-action click ring comprises a first resilient tongue and a second resilient tongue which extend in the same direction in the circumferential direction of the snap-action click ring but are outwardly bent in opposite directions in the axial direction thereof. The first resilient tongue engages the first teeth, and the second resilient tongue engages the second teeth.

Click mechanism in a fishing reel

A bail mechanism in an open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type having a rotor and a line spool which is coaxial with the rotor and oscillating in the axial direction, includes a bail for winding a line onto the line spool. By means of two mounting elements, the bail is mounted on two attachments disposed on the rotor diametrically opposite each other. The bail is pivotable about a bail axis at right angles to the axis of the rotor, between a folded-in line winding position and a folded-out position in which the bail is released of the line. One attachment defines an open chamber and has a cover plate detachably mounted over the chamber for closing it. The cover plate has a through hole whose center is located on the bail axis, and carries on its inside a rotary disc having a center pin extending through the hole in the cover plate and carrying the associated mounting element on the outside of the cover plate. A tension spring is provided in the chamber and mounted between an eccentric pin on the rotary disc and a pin on the cover plate. The rotary disc is rotatable against the action of the tension spring between two positions corresponding to the folded-out position and the folded-in position of the bail.

Bail mechanism in an open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type

A fishing reel of the fixed-spool type comprises a frame and a spool shaft rotatably mounted therein. A line spool is non-rotatably mounted on the end of the spool shaft projecting from the frame. The reel has a transmission for changing the movement of a handle, both into a rotary movement of a rotor for winding up a line on the line spool and into a movement of an eccentric device for axial oscillation of the spool shaft. The reel further has an adjustable friction brake intended to allow the line spool to rotate under frictional drag in relation to the frame. Further, the fishing reel has a friction brake release device which is operated by the handle and which, when the handle is turned backwards (in a direction contrary to the direction of retrieve), acts on the preset friction brake so that it can be released and thereafter readily reengaged.

In fishing reels, more particularly non-rotary type reels, there is provided a device comprising a disengageable anti-reverse mechanism in the form of a pawl and ratchet mechanism and being characterized by an actuating means operable by the hand crank of the fishing reel via a transmission rotatable by the crank, and by means of which the pawl of the anti-reverse mechanism is rockable between an operative anti-reverse position and an inoperative position in relation to the ratchet, depending on the direction in which the crank is rotated.

Disengageable locking mechanism in a fishing reel

A fishing reel of the type having a line spool which during casting is non-rotating and from which the fishing line is unwound in a substantially axial direction, a bail support member rotatable by means of a hand crank, a bail means pivotally mounted on the support member to be rotated therewith, the bail means being movable against spring action from an active position for winding up the line on the line spool to an inactive position in relation to the line for permitting undisturbed unwinding of the line during casting, a releasable latching mechanism for automatically and releasably locking the bail means in its inactive position and for automatically and releasably locking said rotatable bail support member to prevent pivoting of the bail and unintentional rotation of the rotatable member, respectively, during casting. The latching mechanism comprises first engagement means on said body, second engagement means supported by and movable with said bail means, and an engaging member for cooperation with the first and second engagement means, said engaging member being movably supported by the rotatable bail support member, means for moving the engaging member from an unengaged position to an engaging position with the first and second engagement means when the bail means is pivoted to its inactive position, and releasing means supported by a stationary portion of the fishing reel for returning said engaging member to said unengaged position when the rotatable bail supporting member is rotated by the hand crank, whereupon the bail means will be returned by spring action to its active position for winding up the line on the line spool.
