A magnetic tape cassette apparatus having a control device for controlling drive mechanism functions including the drawing in and ejection of a cassette. A control rod is longitudinally displaceable backwards and forwards by a servo motor between end points on its path of movement and, in certain operating positions, controls drive mechanism functions in conjunction with switching transmitters and a logic circuit. A catch rod is movably guided on the control rod in the longitudinal direction of the latter. The catch rod is lockable to the control rod and is mechanically coupled to the loading mechanism of the drive mechanism. The catch rod and the control rod act on a control switch to feed commands imparted by switch actuators on the rods to the logic circuit, which forms switching commands therefrom for apparatus functions.

The invention relates to a switching device in a magnetic-tape apparatus of the auto-reverse type, comprising a pivotal drive mechanism which is pivotable between two turntables to drive a first turntable in a first position and a second turntable in a second position. The pivotal drive mechanism, when it is pivoted between its first position and its second position in the case of a reversal of the direction of tape transport, actuates a change-over device for a pair of pressure rollers. The changeover device by means of a slide lifts a first or a second pressure roller journalled on a lever off an associated capstan against spring force. The pressure roller levers are pivoted about a pivotal axis by the pivotal drive mechanism and the slide via a first and a second cam lever respectively. The cam levers comprise cam surfaces which are followed by the pressure-roller levers. When the pivotal drive mechanism approaches the first or the second turntable, one of the cam levers is pivoted further via a pressure portion of the cam surface by the spring force acting on the associated pressure-roller lever, in such a way that the slide is urged into an end position by the pressure-roller lever. A magnetic-tape-cassette apparatus comprises a servo rod axially movable in opposite directions which is driven by a motor. The servo rod controls functional elements of the apparatus, such as a head-mounting plate and a loading mechanism. The motor is also used for driving the turntables. The apparatus further comprises a control member whose position is defined by the servo rod and the head-mounting plate. The position of the control member determines the position of a rotatable switching member, which actuates switching means for a logic circuit for the motor. A cassette transport lever is engaged by a cassette being inserted into the apparatus, for movement of the lever to an operating position; and upon subsequent reverse movement of the lever for ejecting the cassette. Upon movement of the lever to the operating position the lever engages a switch for turning on a motor which drives a control rod for controlling other apparatus functions. During ejection, guide surfaces on the control rod engage a delay element which holds the switch in the position for maintaining the motor turned on until the cassette is ejected past the position in which the motor was turned on during insertion. Upon the cassette reaching a second position, the guide surface releases the delay element so that the motor may be turned off. During insertion, the delay element engages a different portion of the guide so that the motor is only turned on when the ejection lever has been sufficiently rotated.

A loading/ejection lever has a slot engaged by a pin on a servo member, for pivoting the lever during loading or ejection of a cassette. The servo member also has a guide surface for causing a cassette lift to be lowered during the latter stages of insertion, and raised during the first stages of cassette ejection. The guide surface for the cassette lift is divided into separate lowering and raising portions, arranged so that a longer stroke of the servo member is utilized during the loading process, before the cassette lift is lowered, than in the reverse movement in which the lift is raised only after the servo member has passed the lowering point. As a result of this construction, it is possible to provide a greater distance between the lever pivot and the location where the coupling pin on the servo member engages the lever, and to provide a spring element on the lever which biases the coupling pin during only a portion of the range of engagement between the servo member and the loading/ejection lever.
