A firearm has a receiver with a receptacle. A stock has a projection which is received within the receptacle to mount the stock on the receiver. A spring biased detent holds the stock in engagement with the receptacle. Manual manipulation of the detent allows the stock to be removed from the firearm's receiver.

A trigger mechanism has a first trigger which engages a sear connector and a second trigger, pivotably mounted on the first trigger, which supports the sear connector. The sear connector supports a sear, which holds a firing pin in the cocked position via a cocking piece. To discharge the firearm both triggers must be pulled. A safety lever has a hook which engages the second trigger and a projection which engages a spur on the first trigger when the lever is in the safe position.

An improved muzzle-loading firearm with a removable, threadless breech plug retained by a breech plug retaining collar, and a barrel retaining nut for simplifying manufacture, cleaning, preventing fouling and over-pressure situations, and minimizing alignment issues during assembly of the firearm. The removable, threadless breech plug also allows for straightforward interchangeability of breech plugs for use with various primers and propellants. The muzzle-loading firearm has a barrel with a protrusion on the breech end of the barrel that fits into a matched groove within the mono block for use in aligning the barrel during assembly of the firearm. The muzzle-loading firearm has a barrel retaining nut, wherein the barrel retaining nut is internally threaded to accept the threaded end of the barrel thereby retaining the barrel in the mono block.

A muzzle-loading firearm with a lever-operated breechblock pivotally movable between a securely locked closed position to an open position to expose in plain view a removable breech plug having a cavity for receiving a primer, detonation of which causes ignition of a powder charge in the muzzle loader barrel. The breechblock and a lever are pivotally mounted on a rearward barrel lug which is attached to the barrel. The lever is operatively connected to the breechblock by a pivotally mounted link. The pivotal link in an angular position exerts a locking force on the closed breechblock. The lever manually moves the breechblock rearwardly and downwardly to an open position. A firing mechanism assembly, including a trigger, hammer, firing pin, and torsional springs for forwardly biasing the trigger and hammer, is a unitary member of the rotating breechblock structure.
