The present invention is a composition comprising (a) a coating base selected from a water-dispersed coating, an epoxy polymer coating, an alkyd coating, a Type I urethane coating, or an unsaturated polyester coating; and (b) a fluorinated ester compound represented by Formula (I): where A is &#x2014;OH, a C-Calkyl, &#x2014;CHCOOH, &#x2014;CHOH, or (CHCHO)(CHCH(CH)O)H; a and b are 0 to 3; s is 0 to 2; Y is a linear or branched alkylene organic group having r+s+t substitutions; x is 0 or 1; Q is &#x2014;C(O)O&#x2014; or &#x2014;OC(O)&#x2014;; Z is &#x2014;(CH)S&#x2014; or &#x2014;(CHCHO)(CHCH(CH)O)&#x2014;; y is 2 to 6; m and n are 0 to 6; Ris a straight or branched perfluoroalkyl group of 2 to 20 carbon atoms; Ris a straight or branched C-Calkyl; r is 1 to 4; and t is 1 to 5, such that r+s+t is 2 to 6.

Partially fluorinated ester compound additives for architectural coatings

The present invention is a composition comprising (a) a coating base selected from a water-dispersed coating, an epoxy polymer coating, an alkyd coating, a Type I urethane coating, or an unsaturated polyester coating; and (b) a fluorinated ester compound represented by Formula (I):[AY(CH)-Q-Z&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;R]&#x2003;&#x2003;(I)where A is independently &#x2014;OH, a C-Calkyl, &#x2014;CHOH, &#x2014;CHCOOH, or (CHCHO)(CHCH(CH)O)H; a and b are independently 0 to 3, where a+b is 1 to 3; s is 0 to 2; Y is a linear or branched alkylene organic group having t+s substitutions; x is 0 or 1; Q is &#x2014;C(O)O&#x2014; or &#x2014;OC(O)&#x2014;; Z is &#x2014;(CH)S&#x2014; or &#x2014;(CHCHO)(CHCH(CH)O)&#x2014;; y is 2 to 6; m and n are independently 0 to 6, where m+n is 1 to 6; Ris a straight or branched perfluoroalkyl group of 2 to 20 carbon atoms; and t is 2 to 6, such that s+t is 2 to 6.

Fluorinated ester compound additives for architectural coatings

Ethylene and allyl- or vinylsilanes are efficiently copolymerized by certain late transition metal complexes containing selected bidentate or tridentate ligands. The resulting novel polymers may be crosslinked by moisture when vinylsilane contains groups bound to silicon which are hydrolyzable. The polymers are useful for wire coating, crosslinked foams, pipes, and other uses.

Copolymers of olefins and vinyl- and allylsilanes

Olefin polymerizations employing a complex of a Group 8, 9, or 10 transition metal with a bidentate ligand as part of the polymerization catalyst system are improved by adding to the polymerization a silicon compound in which at least one atom of a Group 15 or 16 element is bound to a silicon atom. The polymerizations often have increased polymer productivity and/or the polymerization catalyst has a longer half life.
