Apparatus for coupling a rotary grinding tool to a rotary spindle has a long centering cone at the front end of the spindle for entry into a complementary conical hole in the main portion of a hub which separably holds the tool. The spindle transmits torque to the hub by means of two male torque transmitting elements provided on an axial extension of the hub and extending into complementary recesses provided on a ring-shaped member at the smaller-diameter end of the cone. The tool is held in a predetermined axial position by an end face of the extension which abuts an end face of the cone. A package of springs is installed in the cone to normally bias the extension of the hub axially of and away from the spindle so as to facilitate separation of the tool from the spindle by means of an automatic tool changer. The spring surrounds the shank of a screw or bolt which separably secures the extension of the hub to the cone of the spindle.

Apparatus for releasably coupling grinding tools to rotary spindles

The frame of a machine tool supports a feed screw which can be rotated by a reversible motor and meshes with a nut connected to the work-supporting table of the machine tool by a pair of links flanking the feed screw and disposed in planes which are parallel to the axis of the feed screw. The end portions of the links are pivotable without play about pins which are embedded in the underside of the table and about pins which are embedded in the nut. Such articulate connection between the table and the nut ensures that vibrations, flexure and/or other stray movements of the feed screw are not transmitted to the workpiece or workpieces on the table.

Apparatus for filling containers whose upper ends are open and which are moved seriatim and stepwise to a filling station has a receptacle which is disposed at a level above a container at the filling station and below a metering device whose lower end can be opened to discharge a metered quantity of flowable material onto a normally horizontal bottom wall of the receptacle. The receptacle is thereupon pivoted to move a discharge opening thereof into the open end of the container at the filling station and to incline the bottom wall to such an extent that the metered quantity of flowable material slides off the bottom wall and enters the container by way of the opening. The opening is normally sealed by a flap which is opened when the opening extends into the open end of a container at the filling station.

Apparatus for filling containers

Boxes which are open at the top and partly open at the bottom are transported by a chain conveyor past assembling, filling and sealing stations. At the assembling station, each box receives a bag which is open at the top and closed at the bottom, and each box further receives a platform which is inserted through its partially open bottom and extends to such a level as to maintain the open top of the respective bag above the open top of the box. Successive containers consisting of boxes and empty bags are then advanced to the filling station where the bags receive metered quantities of pulverulent, granular or other material, and the thus filled containers are advanced to the sealing station where the tops of the filled bags are readily sealable because they project upwardly beyond the open tops of the corresponding boxes. The boxes are then raised relative to the filled and sealed bags so that the bags are fully received therein before the top and bottom ends of the boxes are closed and the finished containers are removed from the chain conveyor. The platforms are retracted immediately downstream of the sealing station.
