The invention proposes to introduce a method for a Radio Access Network for providing 'Local Switching' between call legs of a call. Within said method the Radio Access Network receives a call identifier for a leg of a call from a Core Network to be handled by the Radio Access Network. The Radio Access Network stores said received call identifier, compares said received call identifier with stored call identifiers for call legs of calls via said Radio Access Network. If said received call identifier matches a stored call identifier the Radio Access Networks establish local switching of call legs identified by the matching call identifier. In an alternative embodiment, the invention proposes to introduce a method for a Core Network for providing local switching for call legs of a call. Within said method the Core Network receives or generates a call identifier for a leg of a call. The Core Network stores said received call identifier and identifies a respective Radio Access Network for said leg of said call. Thereafter, the Core Network compares said call received identifier with stored call identifiers for call legs of calls via said identified Radio Access Network. If said received call identifier matches a stored call identifier enforce local switching of call legs identified by the matching call identifier. The invention furthermore provides for respective Nodes of the respective Networks employing the invention.

Local switching

In accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention, disclosed is a method and an apparatus thereof for removing jitter introduced by a packet switched network. Each received audio frame comprises a primary portion and a redundancy portion. The redundancy portion comprises a partial redundant copy of a previous frame that is offset by k frames. If a frame n is lost, a frame n+k that comprises the partial redundant copy of the lost frame n, is located in a jitter buffer. Based on the frame n+k, a substitute frame n' substituting the lost frame n is created and a substitution indicator of the substitute frame n&#x2032; is set to indicate that the redundancy portion of the substitute fame n&#x2032; should be used in decoding.

Method and apparatus for removing jitter in audio data transmission

Systems and methods related to performing an assignment and a handover in a radio communication network are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a method performed by a Mobile Switching Center (MSC) of a radio communication network may include seizing resources for a Time Division Multiplexed (TDM) bearer and an Internet Protocol (IP) bearer for use on a terrestrial A-interface of the radio communication network for an activity to be performed by a target Base Station Controller (BSC) of the radio communication network. Further, the method may include sending, to the target BSC, an indication that requests the activity be performed by the target BSC and that also identifies the seized resources for the TDM bearer and the IP bearer for use on the terrestrial A-interface for the activity.

Assignment and handover in a radio communication network

Systems and methods related to performing an assignment and a handover in a radio communication network are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a method performed by a Mobile Switching Center (MSC) of a radio communication network may include seizing resources for a Time Division Multiplexed (TDM) bearer and an Internet Protocol (IP) bearer for use on a terrestrial A-interface of the radio communication network for an activity to be performed by a target Base Station Controller (BSC) of the radio communication network. Further, the method may include sending, to the target BSC, an indication that requests the activity be performed by the target BSC and that also identifies the seized resources for the TDM bearer and the IP bearer for use on the terrestrial A-interface for the activity

In accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention, disclosed is a method and an apparatus thereof for handling codec rate adaptation in a communication network applying circuit switched communication. The method is performed by a wireless device. The method comprises receiving an indication of a codec mode and determining a codec mode subset based on the indicated codec mode. Rate adaptation is applied based on the codec modes comprised in the determined codec mode subset having a bit rate below or equal to a bit rate associated with the indicated codec mode.

Rate control in circuit switched systems

The invention relates to a method for setting up a connection between an originating mobile entity and a terminating mobile entity connecting to the same radio access network of a mobile communications network, the radio access network accessing a core network through a serving access gateway serving one of the two mobile entities the method performed by the serving access gateway comprising the steps of receiving a connection setup message for establishing the connection between the originating and the terminating mobile entity, wherein the connection setup message transmitted along a signalling path in the core network comprises an information element storing media plane access needs of at least one network node in the signalling path of the core network, wherein the media plane access needs indicate the needs of a network node in the signal path of the core network to access a media plane of the connection to be set up. Additionally it is checked whether any of the network nodes in the signalling path of the core network needs access to the media plane of said connection to be set up, wherein, if none of the network nodes needs access to the media plane and if the serving access gateway needs access to the media plane at least the following steps are carried out: a media gateway that is handling a media stream of the serving access gateway is instructed to provide an uplink endpoint for the connection to the originating mobile entity and an uplink endpoint for the connection to the terminating mobile entity for the connection to be set up, and the radio access network is informed to transmit the media stream of the originating and the terminating mobile entity to the media gateway of the serving access gateway needing access to the media plane.

Local data bi-casting between core network and radio access

The Invention proposes a method for a Control Node (MSC) of a Core Network (CN) for late activation of a User Plane between a Radio Station (eNodeB, NodeB, BTS) and a control node (RNC, BSC) of a Radio Access Network (eUTRAN, UTRAN, URAN, GERAN, GRAN, RAN) of a call to be set-up. Furthermore, a method for a control node of a Radio Access Network for late activation of a User Plane between a Radio Station and a control node of a Radio Access of a call to be set-up is proposed MSC receives an indication that a call involving said MSC and a BSC of a RAN shall be set-up. MSC gains knowledge that said BSC is adapted for a late User Plane Activation. MSC instructs said BSC that the User Plane between the Radio Station and the BSC/RNC shall be reserved. Upon detecting that the User Plane of said call shall be through connected, MSC instructs the BSC to activate the reserved User Plane between Radio Station and BSC. In addition corresponding nodes are proposed.

Methods, devices and computer programs for supporting emergency communications

A system and method control a setup of a connection in a communication network including a set of nodes, such as Mobile Switching Centers (MSCs) and Media Gateways (MGWs). In one example, a speech connection is established between MGWs subject to the control of the MSCs, which can selectively activate or deactivate codecs along the connection. The codecs potentially affect connection quality by differing amounts. A Total Accumulated Impairment (TAI) element is forwarded between the MSCs and updated by the MSCs that include individual partially accumulated impairment values corresponding to the supported codec candidates. Each individual indicator value provides information representative of the expected accumulated impairment along a candidate connection path leading up to, and including, the corresponding codec. By providing information pertaining to the expected accumulated impairment along each candidate connection path, the MSCs can determine an optimum sequence of codecs to minimize the overall connection impairment.
