A limiting value z-critical is defined for the braking system, which specifies a maximum braking action, at which a traction stress on the front axle of the vehicle and a traction stress on the rear axle of the vehicle are equal. The braking system is mechanically configured for a z-critical of at least 0.7 g, and the braking system is controlled by the control electronics system during operation using a z-critical value of at most 0.7 g.

In order to reduce pressure pulsations on an intake side of the multi-piston pump, the brake system embodies a multi-piston pump, for example, as a six-piston pump with stepped pistons that are driven with an alternating phase shift of 30&deg; and 90&deg; in relation to one another. The invention relates to a hydraulic vehicle brake system with a master cylinder, with two brake circuits (I, II), with wheel brakes connected to the brake circuits (I, II), and with a wheel slip regulator device disposed between the master cylinder and the wheel brakes, which device has at least one brake pressure modulation valve device and at least one high pressure pump, and with a pump unit associated with this high pressure pump. In the automatic braking operation by means of at least one of the high pressure pumps, the pump unit is used for supplying hydraulic fluid to the high pressure pump. The pump unit has a low pressure pump in the form of a gear pump. To limit the pressure at an outlet of the low pressure pump at least one return flow conduit is provided between this outlet and an inlet, which conduit, in a manner according to the invention constitutes a throttle by which the choice of its cross section, which throttle is for controlling at least one return flow which increases with increasing pressure at the outlet and as a result achieves the pressure limiting. The hydraulic vehicle brake system can be used for cars, minibuses, and small trucks.

In a first region of the driver's braking command, regenerative braking produces almost all of the braking torque, whereas the friction brake produces essentially no braking torque. In this region of the braking command, the pressure medium flowing into the wheel brake cylinder as a result of the driver's actuation of the brake pedal, is conducted by appropriate control back to a storage chamber. The first region is limited by a threshold brake pedal travel which corresponds to the maximum braking torque available from the motor. When pedal travel exceeds this threshold, the friction brake and the motor both effect braking.

A hydraulic braking system having an apparatus for anti-lock control and for generating a differential lock by brake engagement, has a structurally simplified control unit, without any reduction in function. In its brake circuit II for driven vehicle wheels, the braking system with TT brake circuit distribution has valve assemblies associated with the wheel brakes and having an inlet valve and at least one outlet valve for brake pressure modulation. On the master cylinder side, a blocking valve is disposed in a brake line leading to the wheel brakes. During the duration of the differential lock by brake engagement, the high-pressure pump is driven, in the phase for pressure buildup, the charging valve and the inlet valve of the wheel brake of the vehicle wheel to be slowed down assume the open position, and the inlet valve of the wheel brake of the other vehicle wheel and the blocking valve assume the blocking position, in the phase for pressure holding, the charging valve, the inlet valve of the wheel brake of the other vehicle wheel, and the blocking valve are switched into the blocking position, in the phase for pressure reduction, the charging valve and the inlet valve of the wheel brake of the other vehicle wheel are in the blocking position and the blocking valve is in the open position, in all phases of the brake pressure modulation, the at least one outlet valve remains in the blocking position. Such a hydraulic braking system is suitable in particular for motor vehicles.

When braking occurs but the ABS is not in operation, the brakes at the rear wheels are isolated from the master cylinder by a solenoid valve. Brake pressure at the rear wheels is then provided by a pump and regulated so that the slower rear wheel runs slower than the faster front wheel by a given small speed difference.

A system which reduces an electric load on an on-board electrical system of a vehicle. The brake system has an anti-lock and traction control system. The latter has a high-pressure pump, with which pressure fluid can be withdrawn from a supply container and fed into a brake line. A charging valve that can be switched out of its shutoff position into its open position by a control unit is disposed in an intake line of the high-pressure pump. The control unit switches the charging valve into its open position at least whenever feeding of pressure fluid into the brake line is demanded. The brake system is especially well-suited to passenger cars, which have a very severely fluctuating rear axle load status.
