A gas generator for air bags is provided which includes a first outer shell and a second outer shell, each having a circular part and an outer wall formed along the outer periphery of the circular part. A gas generating device is installed in the hollow portion formed within the outer shells. Openings for communicating the hollow portion with an air bag are provided. A plurality of concentric wall members axially extending from the circular part of the first outer shell and a plurality of concentric wall members axially extending from the circular part of the second outer shell, located at positions corresponding to the outer wall members of the first outer shell define circumferential chambers within the gas generator. Gaps are formed between terminal end surfaces of opposing outer wall members whereby gases produced by the gas generating device on receiving impacts flow through the generator and are introduced into the air bag to protect a passenger from impacts.

Gas generator with novel nozzle structure

The present invention provides a gas generator for air bags that includes a first shell having a circular part and an outer wall. The outer wall formed is of a porous material which allows gas to pass freely therethrough. A second shell is attached to the first shell to form a housing into which is installed a gas generating device. The gas generating device includes a canister filled with a gas generant. A plurality of first and second blade members fasten the first and second shells together. The blade members are at least equal in height to the total height of the housing, the first blade members being shaped to fit the outer circumferential surface of the canister and placed in contact with the outer circumferential surface of the canister and arranged along the circumference of the canister at periodic intervals to form a ring. The second blade members have a width at least equal to the circumferential interval between the first blade members and are spaced radially from the first blade members and shifted in the circumferential direction from the first blade members to positions facing the intervals between the first blade members. The first and second blade members have projections that extend through apertures formed in the first and second shells. The projections engage the outer surfaces of the shells to fasten the shells together. Gases produced by the gas generating device on receiving impacts are delivered past the blade members and introduced, through the outer wall of the first shell, into the air bag to protect a passenger from the impacts.

The present invention provides a gas generator for air bags that includes a first shell having a circular part and an outer wall. The outer wall is formed of a porous material which allows gas to pass freely therethrough. A second shell is attached to the first shell to form a housing into which is installed a gas generating device. A plurality of first and second blade members fasten the first and second shells together. The blade members are placed in contact with the circumferential surface of the canister and arranged along the circumference of the canister at periodic intervals to form a ring. The second blade members have a width at least equal to the circumferential interval between the first blade members and are spaced radially from the first blade members and shifted in the circumferential direction from the first blade members to positions facing the intervals between the first blade members. Gas is produced by the gas generating device, upon receiving impacts, delivered passed the blade members and introduced through the outer wall of the first shell, into the air bag to protect the passenger from an impact.

Gas generator for air bags with circumferentially disposed blades

A process for producing a dispersion hardened copper alloy includes admixing to a copper melt from 0.3 to 15 weight % of molybdenum to provide a mixture which is a melt; superheating the mixture to a temperature ranging from about 200.degree. C. to about 1000.degree. C. above the melting point of coper to provide a superheated melt; and subjecting the superheated melt to very rapid solidification at a cooling rate ranging from 104.degree. to 106.degree. C./sec. The above process produces dipsersion hardened copper alloy comprising copper and from 1 to 15 weight % of molybdenum which is present in the dispersion hardened copper alloy as particles having a diameter of less than 0.1 .mu.m embedded in the copper matrix. Such dispersion hardened copper alloys are useful for providing electrical conductors which are subjected to elevated temperatures, such as for providing spot welding electrodes, particularly for welding of zinc-galvanized sheet metal. Such alloys do not become brittle when heated up to around about 500.degree. C. or even up to around about 800.degree. C.
