A side wall for a motor vehicle has an inside shell made of steel plate and an outside covering connected with (particularly welded to) the inside shell. The outside covering comprises an inside panel made of a steel alloy and an outside panel.

The invention is concerned with a compression molding device () with a tool () generating at least a part of the work-piece geometry. At least one pressure measuring means () and/or at least one pressure space () is located directly below the work-piece associated surface () of the tool (). Besides this, the work piece () selectively exhibits at least one first part () which is a tool template generating the shape of the work piece and a second part () forming the base body, wherein a measuring strip () is provided between the tool template () and the base body (). As an optional refinement, the measuring strip () is an elastic intermediate layer with a smaller modulus of elasticity than the base body ().
