A method for creating a fold preparation pattern includes supplying job-specific signature characteristics to a computer and determining job-specific cutting requirements by using general cutting requirements assigned to respective general signature characteristics in the computer and using the job-specific signature characteristics. The computer accesses a database that contains cutting, trimming, and clipping patterns and compiles job-specific fold preparation patterns in accordance with the job-specific cutting requirements. A computer for implementing the method and a system having the computer are also provided.

Product is printed in a combined printing process with two ink systems. The printing material is first printed with a solvent-based or radiation-curing ink and then with at least one offset-typical ink. The printing machine for the inline implementation of the novel process is a hybrid press, having a flexo printing unit and a downstream offset printing unit. A UV, electron-beam or air-stream dryer is integrated into the flexo printing unit, or a UV, electron-beam or air-stream drying unit is arranged between the flexo printing unit and the offset printing unit.

A printing machine has side frames and a printing machine drive. A paper sheet guiding cylinder is mounted in the side frames of the printing machine, is drivingly connected to the printing machine drive and has an axis. The paper sheet guiding cylinder includes a cylindrical casing and side walls with through holes formed therein. The paper sheet guiding cylinder has a rotatably mounted radial ventilator being coaxial with the axis of the paper sheet guiding cylinder for supplying blowing air into the paper sheet guiding cylinder and for deflecting the blowing air inside the paper sheet guiding cylinder towards the cylindrical casing. The radial ventilator has end surfaces communicating with the ambient air through the holes and ventilator blades being disposed concentrically about the axis of the paper sheet guiding cylinder and extending along the paper sheet guiding cylinder. A drive for the paper sheet guiding cylinder has adjustable speed and is independent of the paper sheet guiding cylinder.

Device for jogging a pile of sheets includes a pushrod extending in a direction towards a sheet pile, the pushrod having a thrust plate disposed on an end thereof pointing in the direction towards the sheet pile, a device for holding the pushrod, the holding device being displaceable in a jogging direction, a drive connectible to the holding device for imparting a jogging movement thereto in the jogging direction, the pushrod being mounted so as to be displaceable in the direction towards the sheet pile for adjusting the position of the thrust plate relative to the holding device, an adjusting device for adjusting the pushrod in position for effecting a format adjustment, the pushrod being variable in length, a device for varying the length of the pushrod, and a device for fixing the pushrod at and for releasing the pushrod from a respective length thereof.

Feed table in the vicinity of a side lay of a sheet-fed printing press includes a table cover having a continuous surface between a table surface covering a center of a feed table and a side lay, the table cover having the continuous surface being formed with regions having at least one characteristic of being compressible and expandable in a direction of lateral displacement of the side lay, support elements defining a uniform sheet guiding plane and being adjustable in position in the direction of lateral displacement of the side lay, and a device for adjusting the position of the support elements in accordance with an extent of compression and expansion, respectively, of the compressible and expandable regions.

Device for aligning a leading edge of sheets includes a plurality of front lays cyclically movable into an operating position. Also included are an aligned engagement member engageable by the plurality of front lays, and a force-storage device for bringing the plurality of front lays into engagement with the engagement member in the operating position of the plurality of front lays. A device, which is independent of the engagement member ,is also provided for diabling individual front lays of the plurality of front lays from engagement with the aligned engagement member.

A sheet-fed printing press with a sheet feeder and a printing unit traction device connecting the sheet feeder and the printing unit to one another, the traction device having a taut side and a slack side, a phase-adjustment device acting upon the traction device for changing a phase angle between an input shaft and an output shaft by means of a change in the length of the taut side, one of the shafts being assigned to the sheet feeder and the other to the printing unit, the phase-adjustment device acting between the slack side and the taut side along a substantially vertical line disposed centrally with respect to the shafts, the phase-adjustment device comprising an adjustably disposed guide for the taut side of the traction device, and a guide for the slack side of the traction device, tensioning elements acting between the taut-side guide and the slack-side guide for prestressing the slack-side guide against the slack side of the traction device, the slack-side guide together with the taut-side guide being movable along the substantially vertical line so as to effect the phase adjustment, the tensioning elements being effective in a phase wherein the traction device is disposed.

A delivery sheet brake for a sheet-fed printing press having a suction element for gripping a sheet at a trailing edge thereof, the suction element being disposed on an adjustable slide for format adjustment and being guidably movable on a closed path loop extending through a transfer position and a release position for the sheet, and a step-up transmission connecting the suction element to a uniformly revolving drive element disposed likewise on the slide, said transmission including an articulated lever for accelerating the suction element to sheet travel speed before it reaches the transfer position and decelerating the suction element after sheet transfer until the suction element reaches the release position, including a chain wheel connected to the drive element disposed on the adjustable slide, a drive chain directly connecting the chain wheel with a chain wheel of a drive for the printing press, and a chain-storage device for the drive chain, the chain-storage device being in cooperative engagement with the drive chain so as to compensate for changes in length of the drive chain without any phase displacement of the chain wheels.

Delivery sheet brake for a sheet-fed printing press

Delivery for sheets being delivered by a transport system in a conveying direction from a sheet-processing machine and being deposited alternatively in a pile and on catching arms of a catching device, the catching arms being temporarily movable out of a basic position into a catching position above the pile, including stops for respective leading edges of the sheets, the stops being disposed at the pile and being flappable away from the pile in the conveying direction, and a transmission system for moving the catching arms from the basic position into the catching position and from the catching position into the basic position, and for flapping-out the stops against the action of a stop spring in the conveying direction and into a release position thereof and in an opposite direction into a stop position on the pile by way of a common actuating element, the transmission system being constructed so as to flap out the stops into the release position immediately after the catching arms have been moved into the catching position, has a dead-center spring swivellable with respect to a swivel shaft and articulatingly connected to the transmission system, the dead-center spring, in a first end position of the transmission system, holding the catching arms in the basic position against the action of at least one tension spring and, in a second end position of the transmission system, holding the stops in the release position thereof against the action of the stop spring.

A delivery sheet brake for sheet-fed printing presses having a sucker formed with a suction opening movable on a closed loop path at varying speed corresponding in a sheet-transfer position to travel speed of a sheet and then being deceleratable until a sheet-release position is reached above a pile of sheets at a delivery, elements of a drive connected to the sucker for imparting a horizontal motion component to the sucker which is simultaneously movable vertically, and control valves for controlling vacuum in a suction line connected to the sucker, the sucker including a piston disposed in a cylinder of a housing so as to be movable in direction of a longitudinal axis of the piston, the housing being connected to the drive and being disposed swivelingly on a shaft having an axis extending transversely to a direction of travel of the sheet and parallel to the sheet, the piston being reciprocatingly movable in the cylinder of the housing by the vacuum in the suction line to the sucker and being controllable by contact of the sheet with the suction opening.

Ink duct with an ink metering device for an offset printing or letterpress machine, the ink metering device being in cooperative engagement with a duct roller, includes an ink-duct side part pivotable about the axis of the duct roller and displaceable both perpendicularly and parallel to the duct roller, the ink-duct side part having an end face directed toward the duct roller and being in contact with the outer cylindrical surface of the duct roller, and the ink-duct side part having a lateral surface directed towards the interior of the ink duct and being in contact with a ductor knife in order to prevent ink from escaping from the ink-duct, and means for exerting a force on the ink-duct side part in order to maintain contact between the ink-duct side part and the duct roller.
