A dual clutch transmission having a hydraulic circuit for controlling and cooling the clutches of a dual clutch transmission having lube valves in fluid communication with a source of pressurized fluid and wherein the cooling flow is controlled by a solenoid which is adapted to move a valve member to produce a flow area through the valve that is an inverse function of the current delivered to the solenoid and so as to deliver a predetermined control solenoid pressure ultimately to each of the clutches of a dual clutch transmission.

An automatic transmission having a start-up clutch assembly includes a transmission housing, an input drive shaft, and an output drive shaft. An input planetary gear assembly is also included that has a sun gear and a ring gear, with a plurality of planet gears disposed therebetween, the ring gear operatively connected to the input drive shaft. A start-up clutch is operatively disposed between the transmission housing and the sun gear and is adapted to allow the sun gear to freely rotate when the start-up clutch is disengaged so that no torque is transferred. The start-up clutch is further adapted to engage and hold the sun gear stationary so that torque is fully transferred. The start-up clutch is further still adapted to provide a varying and controllable slipping interaction between the disengaged and engaged positions at vehicle start-up thereby providing the vehicle with a smooth transition from stationary to moving.

Automatic transmission having a start-up clutch

A double clutch for a transmission with two transmission input shafts is disclosed having two clutches which can rotate about a common rotational axis, are arranged one behind the other in the axial direction, and have a common driving outer plate support and which each have a driven inner plate support. A tension sleeve at least partially surrounds the outer plate support for selectively activating one of the two clutches.

Double clutch

A transmission system is provided utilizing multiple sets of clutch friction elements, each engaged to transfer torque from a torque input, such as an engine, to different gear ratios. The sets of clutch friction elements are operated simultaneously to provide a blended, gear ratio to a drivetrain. By varying the engagement of the clutch elements, and thus the proportion of the torque transferred to the gear ratio associated with each set of friction elements, an intermediate, effective gear ratio is developed. This effective gear ratio can be increased or decreased in response to external stimuli, such as vehicle and/or engine sensors, by modifying the degree of engagement of each set of clutch friction elements, and thus the proportion of torque transferred by each set of elements to its associated gear ratio.

Multi-clutch system with blended output system for powertrain transmissions

Alternatively thereto, it is envisioned in accordance with the invention that the cross-sectional area of the lining increases or decreases in the radial direction.

A hydraulic double clutch for a transmission with two coaxially arranged input shafts, a driven clutch housing and two hydraulically actuated clutches with friction disks and annular actuating pistons. The first clutch connects the clutch housing to the first input shaft and the second clutch engages/disengages the clutch housing with/from the second input shaft. Both clutches have a common inner disk carrier that penetrates one actuating piston of the actuating pistons.

A driving plate for a multi-plate clutch system includes a plurality of external teeth adapted to be matingly engaged within corresponding internal teeth of a housing of the clutch system. The external teeth are disposed substantially equidistantly along the circumference of the driving plate. At least one tooth of the external teeth is disposed offset in the circumferential direction from adjacent external teeth.

A torsional-vibration damper includes at least one primary element and a secondary element that can be coupled to each other by a spring device, are limited in movement in relation to each other about a rotational axis, and can be brought into frictional contact with each other by a friction device. The friction device has at least two friction-surface-carrying elements rubbing against each other to which a contact-pressure force, generated by a force-generating device, can be applied to produce a frictional engagement between the two elements. The force-generating device has a mechanical actuating mechanism for generating an actuating force and a hydraulic actuating mechanism for generating a counterforce, wherein the contact-pressure force is a vector sum of the actuating force and the counterforce.

Torsional-vibration damper

A motor vehicle clutch assembly with an outer ring which is rotationally driven by the engine. An inner ring of the clutch assembly is seated, with a clutch element, on the transmission input shaft of a speed-change gear. The clutch element locks during engaged conditions of the engine and opens during overrun conditions of the engine.
