A medical fluid treatment system includes a source of purified water; at least one concentrate for mixing with the water from the source to form a treatment fluid; a disposable set including a pumping portion, a concentrate line in fluid communication with the concentrate source and the pumping portion, and a patient line in fluid communication with the pumping portion, the patient line including a filter having a membrane configured to filter the treatment fluid, the filter configured such that (i) fresh treatment fluid flowing from the pumping portion towards a patient flows through the membrane and (ii) used treatment fluid flowing through the filter from the patient to the pumping portion bypasses the membrane; and a medical fluid delivery machine including a pump actuator operable with the pumping portion of the disposable set.

A method for producing sterile solution product bags includes positioning a manifold assembly onto a filling machine. The manifold assembly includes a plurality of bags, a first filter, and a connection line in fluid communication with the first filter. Each of the plurality of bags includes a bladder and a stem in fluid communication with the bladder and with the connection line. The method includes activating a pump and at least partially filling one or more of the bladders by pumping fluid through the feed line, the first filter, and the connection line. The method includes sealing the stem of each of the filled product bags at a location between the connection line and the bladder, thereby creating one or more at least partially filled and sealed product bags. The method includes separating each of the at least partially filled and sealed product bags from the connection line.

Method and system for producing sterile solution product bags

A medical product includes a bladder, a filtration device, and a sterile product concentrate. The bladder has a perimeter seal and defining a sterile chamber. The filtration device includes a stem and a filter membrane disposed in line with the stem. The stem extends through the perimeter seal and has an inlet end accessible from outside of the perimeter seal and an outlet end in fluid communication with the sterile chamber. The filter membrane can have a nominal pore size in a range of approximately 0.1 μm to approximately 0.5 μm, wherein the filter membrane is shaped as a hollow fiber with a wall and pores residing in the wall of the fiber. The sterile product concentrate is disposed in the sterile chamber and adapted to be reconstituted by the introduction of a pharmaceutical fluid into the chamber through the filtration device.

A dialysis apparatus includes a housing; a first electrical contact carried by the housing; a hydrogel material located within the housing; a second electrical contact connected to the hydrogel material, the hydrogel material located so as to be contacted by a liquid flowing through the housing; and wherein the hydrogel material expands as the material absorbs the liquid such that the second electrical contact is moved and eventually engage the first electrical contact.

Method for monitoring and controlling peritoneal dialysis

A blood access device includes (i) a conductive needle configured to pierce a patient's skin and gain access to a blood vessel; (ii) an insulative housing supporting a fluid communication junction between the needle and flexible tube; (iii) a conductor having a first end connected to the insulative housing and a second end extending from the insulative housing in a direction coextensive with the needle such that (a) when the needle has gained access to the blood vessel the patient's skin, the conductor is electrically insulated from the conductive needle and (b) if the needle is pulled so as to interrupt access with the blood vessel, the conductive needle and the conductor come into contact with each other.

A mattress system has a cover, a crib, and a fluid bladder system. The crib surrounds the perimeter of the fluid bladder system and the cover overlies the top surface of the crib and fluid bladder system. The fluid bladder systems provide at least one conventional bladder therapy to a patient positioned on the mattress system. The fluid bladder system interconnects to the crib to not form a hammock effect so the crib functions as a restraint. The fluid bladder is also designed to bottom out to form an exterior cavity. A second cushion is inserted into the exterior cavity and positioned so the crib continues to function as a restraint. The second cushion provides a therapy to the patient that is different from the fluid bladder system.

A negative pressure, compression therapy device is described in this application. It has (a) a heel care boot having a fluid, (b) a pressure bag having an opening that receives the patient's foot and the heel care boot, and (c) a vacuum system that generates a modulatable negative pressure in the pressure bag. The negative pressure in the pressure bag is sufficient to cause the patient's veins to vasodilate and the negative pressure modulates to cause the fluid in the heel care boot to provide compression therapy to the patient.
