Apparatus for use in heating, ventilating, cooling and/or regulating the temperature of rooms in a building including a facade which comprises a framework of hollow posts and hollow girders is distinguished by sections of the hollow posts and hollow girders being connected to one another in flow, in fixed manner, for the conduction of a heat transfer fluid and an air stream between a delivery line and a return flow line. A distinguishing feature is that the hollow posts are constructed in two pieces or parts, each of which parts includes two channels one of which provides for the conduction of a heat transfer fluid and the other for the conduction of a further fluid such as an air stream. In the preferred form illustrated the post parts are made to be generally C-shaped in cross section. As thus provided the C-shape cross section of each part shows that it includes a double-walled base leg portion incorporating both the channel for the heat transfer fluid and a channel for further fluid. By virtue of the C-shape of the cross section of each part, two such parts, each of which exhibits freely projecting legs, are coupled through the medium of the legs along their length to define one hollow post. The two part construction of the post provides for connection of girders to each part in a manner that girders may tightly connected to the post in directly aligned pairs.

A window unit has a plurality of adjustable anchors fixed to a bottom rail thereof. When the window unit is mounted in a building opening, a top rail thereof is received in a channel-shaped frame secured to an upper edge of the building opening and the adjustable anchors are each placed on an attachment base plate secured to a lower edge of the building opening. Then the adjustable anchors are adjusted to adjust the window unit in position between the upper and lower edges, and thereafter are welded or otherwise fastened to the attachment base plates.

Method of attaching window units

A device, for supporting a heavyweight panel in a curtain wall unit or partition having a rectangular frame, comprises a horizontal support plate adapted to support the panel at its lower edge thereof, and a vertical plate extending downwardly and centrally from the horizontal support plate. At least one projection is disposed on the underside or upper side of the horizontal support plate adjacent to an interior edge thereof for being fitted in at least one opening in an interior part of a lower horizontal frame member. The device also may have a plurality of parallel first reinforcing ribs on an interior face of the vertical plate and a plurality of parallel second reinforcing ribs on an exterior face of the vertical plate. Each of the first reinforcing ribs have an interior face lying at a right angle with respect to the underside face of the horizontal support plate for intimate contact with an exterior vertical wall of the interior frame member part when the projection is fitted in the opening in the same interior frame member part. In another form, the first reinforcing ribs are ommitted, and the projection is upwardly directed.

Curtain wall construction having panel support device

A building wall construction installed on a building comprises a plurality of successive window units and at least one corner window unit disposed between two adjacent ones of the window units and having a preformed corner angle identical to that of a corner of the building where the corner window unit is positioned. The corner window unit is joined to the adjacent window units by attachment projections positionally adjustably fitted in recesses, respectively. The corner window unit may be of a salient or re-entrant corner angle.

Building wall construction

A plurality of multiplicity of standardized curtain wall units are arranged in rows and columns to provide a unit type curtain wall assembly. For interconnecting each column of curtain wall units so as to allow relative displacement thereof in their own vertical plane while holding them against relative displacement out of the vertical plane, a pair of horizontally spaced couplings are provided between any two vertically adjoining curtain wall units. Each coupling comprises a male member attached to either of the upper and lower curtain wall units and having a tongue projecting vertically therefrom, and a female member mounted to the other curtain wall unit and defining a groove for slidably receiving the tongue of the male member. Also included is a stringcourse extending along the seam between every two vertically adjoining curtain wall units and disposed exteriorly of the couplings for rain-proofing the seam. The unit type curtain wall assembly may be equipped with a room temperature control system.

Apparatus for connecting upper and lower units in a unit type curtain

A joint structure for two juxtaposed thermally-insulated window units, includes cooperating pairs of plug and socket members disposed on and along opposite inner edges of the window units. The plug members are resiliently received in the mating socket members and are movable with respect to the same to thereby take up or accommodate a relative displacement between the window units, thermal deformation and manufacturing tolerances created in the window units. A resilient block of thermal insulating material is disposed in a space between the opposite inner edges so as to increase the mechanical strength and the thermal insulation of the joint between the window units.

A heat insulator assembly for an inclined curtain wall comprises a transom body having a plate inclined at a prescribed angle and interconnecting horizontal upper and lower base plates, and an outer member coupled to the inclined plate by a coupling bolt with a rigid heat insulating member being interposed between the outer member and the transom body, the bolt lying perpendicular to both the inclined plate and the outer member.

A section for building used for vertical frame members and horizontal frame members for a curtain wall or a window sash. The section comprises a batten arranged so as to oppose to a mounting piece integrally formed on a short side wall on one side of a body and secured to the opposed surface of said mounting piece leaving a predetermined space, at least one connecting plate mounted between said batten and said mounting piece, and a connecting body disposed in the remaining space between said mounting piece and said batten in such a way that a space is left between said connecting plate and said connecting body.

Section for building

A standardized curtain wall unit is disclosed which is intended for use with any required number of other similar curtain wall units to provide a unit type curtain wall assembly capable of room temperature control. The curtain wall unit comprises a plurality of frame members joined into a rectangular shape, defining openings which are closed by double glazing or like panels or panes. All the frame members are of identical cross-sectional shape, with a passageway for a heat transfer fluid and a mounting recess formed longitudinally therethrough in side-by-side relation to each other. The fluid passageway is disposed inwardly of the mounting recess, or closer to the middle of the curtain wall unit, and the mounting recess is open outwardly. This cross-sectional shape of the frame members offers several advantages in constructing the unit type curtain wall assembly from a plurality of such curtain wall units and auxiliary parts such as seals, couplings, and piping.

Curtain wall units in a unit type curtain wall

Horizontally adjacent curtain wall units are supported by a fastener on a building skeleton frame. The fastener includes a first fastener member adjustably fastened to the building frame and a second fastener member adjustably attached to the first fastener member and having a slot and a bearing element. The curtain wall units include confronting vertical frame members with brackets fastened thereto, respectively. One of the brackets has an arm engaging in the slot and the other bracket also has an arm movably supported on the bearing element. The bearing element may comprise a roller or a ball for allowing the other bracket and hence the vertical frame member attached thereto to move in a horizontal direction parallel to the curtain wall units.

Unit curtain wall

A thermal insulating window comprising a thermal insulating window framework having internal framework members supported adiabatically by a thermal insulating curtain wall and external framework members connected thereto through thermal insulating members; and a window body having a window casing mounted to the thermal insulating window framework capable of opening and closing and a panel member supported on the window casing at its periphery. The window further includes a sealing member made of thermal insulating material which is adapted to cover the whole of the outer surface of the window casing and to be in contact with the outer and upper portion of the external framework member. A thermal insulating area is provided at the junction of the window casing and the panel member and a thermal insulating space defined between the window casing and the thermal insulating window framework so that thermal insulation between the inner and outer sides of curtain walls is achieved. In the thermal insulating window, all heat transfer passages between the inner and outer sides of the curtain walls pass through one or more thermal insulating material or thermal insulating space, and therefore the thermal insulating window has a high thermal insulating efficiency as a whole.

A vertical mullion includes an outer structural member and a vertical mullion body coupled together by bolts to embrace a heat insulating member. The vertical mullion body, which has a substantially rectangular cross section, is provided with a heat transfer medium flow passage extending depthwise through the interior thereof. The vertical mullion body has a lower end portion extending below from a connecting portion to a fastener which is mounted to a floor slab, and the lower end portion is connected to a feed pipe and/or a drain pipe.

There is provided corner joint means which facilitates reliable connection of two wall members placed adjacent to each other at a concave or a convex angle portion i.e., corner portion, in the wall structure of buildings. The corner joint means also provides a simple heat insulating construction at the corner portion of the wall structure. The corner joint means of this invention comprises a pair of foundation assemblies each having one end thereof fixedly connected to the respective wall members, and a plurality of plate-like attachment members spaced in the depth direction of the corner portion and extending between the foundation assemblies. Each of the attachment members is so arranged that one end thereof is fixedly connected to one of the foundation assemblies and the other end thereof is slidably connected to the other foundation assembly.

Corner joint means for use in wall structure of buildings

A unit type curtain wall assembly has an array of standardized curtain wall units each having a passageway for air and another passageway for hot or cold water extending through its frame members for room temperature control. For sealing a gap between the opposed side frame members of every two horizontally adjoining curtain wall units so as to minimize the loss of heat energy, an indoor sealing band and a first outdoor sealing band are connected between the opposed side frame members to close the indoor and outdoor sides of the gap therebetween. A second outdoor sealing band is connected exteriorly of the first outdoor sealing band to provide another closed space therebetween so as to prevent heat transmission from the outside. The three sealing bands with the two intervening closed spaces constitute in combination an effective heat insulator. The sealing bands are engaged with the side frame members so as to allow the relative displacement of the curtain wall units in their own plane.

Mullion portion in a unit type curtain wall

A plug assembly for use in a thermal-medium passage in a unit curtain wall, for example, comprises a circular gasket seat having a central cylinder with an annular elastomeric gasket placed on the gasket seat around the central cylinder, and a sleeve fitted over the central cylinder and fastened thereto by a fastener such as a hexagonal socket head cap screw threaded through a bottom of the sleeve axially into the central cylinder. When the plug assembly is to be put in the thermal-medium passage, the plug assembly is inserted into the passage with the fastener slightly loosened. After the plug assembly has been pushed to a desired position in the passage, the fastener is tightened by a tightening tool until the annular elastomeric gasket is resiliently squeezed between the sleeve and the gasket seat radially outwardly against an inner circumferential wall of the passage. A heat-transporting medium such as hot water can be prevented by the annular elastomeric gasket from flowing through the passage. The plug assembly is retained in position by a setscrew threaded through a passage wall against the sleeve.
