An electric cooker comprises a fitting plate having an opening surrounded by an upwardly directed rim, a cooker plate received in the opening, the plate having a cooking surface on which a cooking vessel can be placed, and a sheet metal ring surrounding the cooker plate and projecting beyond the cooker plate. The sheet metal ring has an internal section which rests against the cooker plate and an external section which extends downwards at a particular low incidence and engages beyond the upwardly-directed rim of the fitting plate. The sheet metal ring is shaped and arranged on the electric cooker plate so that the transition from fitting plate to cooking surface allows cooking vessels to be pushed smoothly from the cooking surface on to the fitting plate, and vice versa. This is achieved by having a minimal elevation of the cooking surface over the fitting plate and/or by inter-adapted bevelling of the cooker plate, the sheet metal ring and the fitting plate. Capillary action tending to draw spilled liquids into the cooker is minimized by construction featuring sharp edges at all junction points.

An electric hotplate (2) with a cast iron hotplate body (1) has in its unheated central area (14) a thermostat (19) which, by projections (51) on a cover plate (17), is forced into clearly defined contact with the lower surface (50) of the hotplate body (1) in the vicinity of the unheated central area (14). Casing (23) of thermostat (19) has three projections (8), which are supported on surface (50). The unheated central area (14) does not have to be covered by any cover separate from cover plate (17a). Casing (23) has a recess open on one side and which is not closed by a cover.

A thermostat for an electric hotplate has a casing formed in one piece from an insulating material with a bottom and four side walls defining one open-sided recess therebetween, a snap-action switch, a support, and a bimetallic strip mounted on the support and acting on the switch, the casing having slots formed therein for fixing the switch, support, and strip in the recess. the recess remains open at the one side when the casing is mounted on the hotplate. Interfitting locking structure on the support and formed interiorly on at least one of the side walls can be brought into mutual engagement by movement of the support substantially parallel to the bottom of the casing, whereby the bimetallic strip is safely and securely held in the recess notwithstanding the absence of a cover for the recess. The thermostat is mounted in an unheated central zone of the electric hotplate, and the thermal coupling between the thermostat and the hotplate can be controlled by orienting the open-side of the recess toward or parallel to the underside of the electric hotplate.

Thermostat for electric hotplate

An electric hotplate has a hotplate body with a closed cooking surface made from an iron-based sintered material with additions of other metals. The sintered material hotplate body has a plurality of narrow, flat slots on its bottom, in which is inserted an uncoiled, slightly undulating heating resistor wire. According to a variant, said heating resistor comprises a strip.

Electric hotplate

A conventional electric hotplate with a sheet metal supporting ring surrounding the same is fitted into a glass or ceramic built-in plate, while using an intermediate ring, whose outer rim rests on the built-in plate, while the support ring is supported thereon. The intermediate ring has a flat S-shaped configuration and is much wider than it is high. Thus, the built-in opening can be made larger than the hotplate. A packing, which is held and shielded by an insert ring, surrounds the inner rim of the built-in opening. The packing is located on a substructure, which has centering projections for the insert ring or the hotplate.

A hotplate is fitted by means of a relatively wide and shallow mounting ring, whose outer edge rests on a mounting plate made from glass, ceramic or other materials. At its edge, the mounting ring is adhered to mounting plate using a thermally stable adhesive, which simultaneously forms a seal against cooked articles running through. The sheet metal insert ring covers the inner circumference of mounting a opening in the mounting plate and has an upper outwardly directed flange engaging over the seal. Simultaneously the seal, in conjunction with the insert ring, centers the hotplate in the mounting opening. A release ring can be inserted for releasing the hotplate.

A cooking vessel, comprising: a substantially cup-shaped stainless steel member forming a substantially cylindrical side wall and a substantially planar bottom, the lower portion of the side wall adjacent the bottom having an inwardly directed annular shoulder which is thicker than the remainder of the side wall, the bottom being thicker than the annular shoulder of the lower portion of the side wall, and the outer surface of the cylindrical wall being formed by a roller compression process which imparts thereto increased strength and toughness as well as a substantially crack-free and pore-free surface with a bright finish. The outer surface of a transition portion between the side wall and the bottom is flatly curved, the curved transition surface and the side wall meeting at a thin annular shoulder defined by a sharp edge at the bottom of the side wall. The lower surface of the bottom may be roughened to provide a non-skid surface with improved heat transfer characteristics.

Method and apparatus for manufacture of a vessel

A two-circuit automatic hotplate has a switch, which can be controlled both by a bimetallic strip of a power control device and by an expansion member of a hydraulic temperature sensor. The control heating system of the bimetallic strip is in series with a cooking heating system of the hotplate. The electric power levels of the cooking heating systems are preferably selected in such a way that, wherever possible, a current of the same level flows through the control heating system for the bimetallic strip, so that the same bimetallic strip can always be used.

Electric cooking system

An electric hotplate with a cast hotplate member has a downwardly-directed border on its outer periphery. The edge of a covering sheet centrally fixed to the hot plate by a hollow screw rests on the lower edge of the border. A covering sheet step is centered within the border. A moisture-proof closure is obtained through an interposed seal and insulation is provided by crinkled aluminum foil. The hot plate connecting leads are passed via an insulating member through the covering sheet which, peripherally displaced by 180.degree., faces a depression in the covering sheet, so that hot plates according to the invention can be stacked in a space-saving manner. The connecting leads are flexible and their ends are brought together in a common connecting member.

An electric hotplate, having an insulator bearing at least one electrical heating resistor, comprising: a metal plate heatable by the at least one electrical heating resistor, having substantially flat upper and lower surfaces and a downwardly directed rim near its outer circumference, the rim and lower surface defining a space therebetween, and the upper surface forming a cooking surface for receiving cooking vessels placed thereon; the insulator having a plurality of insulating layers, the at least one heating resistor being disposed on the upper surface of the uppermost layer; a basket-shaped metal lattice surrounding the insulator about its outer surface and holding the plurality of insulating layers together, the insulator and metal lattice forming an independently positionable heater/insulator assembly; and, fasteners at the rim for engaging the metal lattice and holding the heater/insulator assembly in position at least partly in the space.

Electric heater

An electric heating apparatus for heating foods and liquids in a cooking vessel, comprising: a metal upper part, having an upper cooking surface and a lower surface; a metal lower part covering the bottom of the heating apparatus, a sealable space being formed between the upper part and the lower part; and, at least one tubular heating device with a metal covering arranged in the space and having a large flat contact surface for thermally conductively engaging the lower surface of the upper metal part, the space having at least a partial vacuum formed therein, the at least partial vacuum reducing convective heat loss and imparting a concave distortion to the upper metal part which counteracts a convex distortion of the upper metal part due to expansion upon heating, thereby holding the upper metal part substantially flat during heating and maximizing surface contact between the cooking surface and a cooking vessel resting thereon, whereby heat is transferred from the cooking surface to the cooking vessel with maximum efficiency. The apparatus may also be constructed as a receptacle for directly heating foods or liquids.

An electric hotplate (11) has a metal plate-like or inverted dish-shaped circular hotplate member (12) against whose bottom are pressed by spring elements (25) thin flexible tubular heaters (31), while interposing a multilayer insulation (28). A support disk (26) is placed between insulation (28) and spring elements (25). According to a variant a reinforcement is provided, which may also be placed between the insulation and the tubular heaters. The electric hotplate has a low heat storing capacity and a very flat upper cooking surface (32), even under operating conditions.

An electric hot plate has an overheating safety switch having a steatite housing which is inserted into the lower sheet cover plate of the hot plate and is supported with two feet on the lower side of the heating elements of the hot plate. A bimetallic member is positioned parallel between these feet which acts on a snap switch positioned in the steatite housing via a transmission rod. The transmission rod is continuously pressed against the snap switch by a plate spring and a guide on the snap switch. As a result of this, it is fixed precisely in its position. The overheating safety switch simultaneously forms the lead-through passages for the electric hot plate connections.
