A portable communication device, method, and system enable temporary access to private user information by a venue communication system. The temporary access to the private information is based on a registration that includes user selectable privacy thresholds and predetermined venue conditions. The temporary access by the venue communication system can be adjusted and limited by the portable communication device. The usage of the private data by the venue communication system may be limited to anonymous analytics and/or extended to non-anonymous analytics and notifications based on user input to the communication device.

Data privacy management based on conditional thresholds

Methods and systems for verification of an environmental seal provided by an encapsulant coating of a bottom-ported MEMS microphone package. A purposeful acoustic leak is provided on an upper surface of a package housing (in the form of an additional acoustic port) and a sealing material is applied to an outer surface of the package housing. A properly applied encapsulant coating will completely seal the additional acoustic port on the upper surface of the package housing. However, the placement of the additional acoustic port on the upper surface of the package housing will have a significant, detectable effect on the frequency response of the microphone if it is not completely sealed by the encapsulant coating. Accordingly, the environmental seal provided by the encapsulant coating is verified by confirming, based on the acoustic frequency response testing, that the encapsulant coating has effectively sealed the additional acoustic port on the upper surface of the package housing.

A microphone packaging assembly () provides a printed circuit board (pcb) () for coupling to a microphone device () having a bottom acoustic port (). The pcb provides an acoustic port opening () which aligns with the bottom acoustic port () of the microphone device (). A solder pad pattern () is disposed on the pcb (). The solder pad pattern () is configured to provide both electrical connection () and an incomplete solder seal () having purposeful acoustic leak to the microphone device (). A conformable coating () provides a seal to the purposeful acoustic leak. A single acoustic test can be performed to detect proper environmental protection and acoustic sealing of the packaged assembly ().

Microphone packaging for a portable communication device

A method and apparatus are described for providing an acoustically-resistive air-permeable venting structure within a sealed microphone acoustic cavity. A microphone is mounted on a printed circuit board and positioned within a housing. A water-resistant membrane seals the microphone from an exterior of the housing, and a active acoustic cavity establishes an acoustical connection between the water-resistant membrane and the microphone. An acoustically-resistive air-permeable venting structure is formed in the body of the printed circuit board and connects to the active acoustic cavity either directly or via a separate vent path. The venting structure provides a viscous dampening effect by venting an active acoustic cavity of the electronic device to the rest of the enclosure sealed by the water-resistant membrane.

A microphone porting structure, comprises a substrate () having a bearing surface and a porting through-hole () formed therethough for aligning with a microphone port of a bottom ported microphone (). The bearing surface provides an area against which to seal and the through-hole provides for acoustic path alignment for the audio ports of paired bottom ported microphones mounted to a printed circuit board.

The device can include a first side with at least one first audio port () providing a data communication aspect, a second side with at least one second audio port () providing an audio communication aspect, and a transducer () positioned between the first side and the second side. The invention concerns a mobile communications unit () having at least one transducer () that can broadcast audio through a direct port (), at least one leak port () for leak tolerance of the unit, in which the leak port can have a first opening () and a multi-use opening (). The multi-use opening can be coupled to the first opening of the leak port to complete a path for the leak port, and the multi-use opening can also receive a part of an accessory. As an example, the mobile unit can be a monolith mobile unit. As another example, the accessory can be a holster having a hook mechanism that fits within the multi-use opening and can secure the mobile communications unit to the holster.
