Method and installation for producing steel products with optimum surface quality

Disclosed are a method and an installation for producing steel products () having an optimum surface quality, especially extremely low carbon contents (UCL steel or IF steel), nitrogen contents, total oxygen contents, high-strength or stainless steel qualities. According to the invention, the liquid steel is cast into a thin slab () from a process route (, or) that is selected according to the desired final structure () based on an electric-arc furnace (), is descaled, cut into billets () having a partial length, optionally descaled once again, subjected to final descaling downstream from a holding furnace (), milled in a finishing mill train (), rolled up in a rolling station () located downstream from the last finishing mill stand () or downstream from a cooling section (), and the final structure () is adjusted in the cooling section () according to the desired steel quality by cooling on a run-out roller table (), whereupon the rolling stock () is completely rolled up in a second rolling station ().

Method and installation for the production of steel products having an optimum surface quality

A method of manufacturing microalloyed structural steels by rolling in a CSP plant or compact strip production plant, wherein the cast slab strand is supplied divided into rolling lengths through an equalizing furnace to a multiple-stand CSP rolling train and is continuously rolled in the rolling train into hot-rolled wide strip, wherein the strip is cooled in a cooling section and is reeled into coils, and wherein, for achieving optimum mechanical properties, a controlled structure development by thermomechanical rolling is carried out as the thin slab travels through the CSP plant. For manufacturing high-strength microalloyed structural steels with a yield point of &gE;480 MPa, the available strengthening mechanisms are utilized in a complex manner in order to achieve an optimum property complex with respect to strength and toughness of the structural steels, by carrying out, in addition to the thermomechanical rolling with the method steps according to U.S. patent application Ser. No. 09/095,338 filed Jun. 10, 1998, now U.S. Pat. No. 6,030,470, a further influence on the structure of the thin slabs by changing the material composition in order to achieve a specific mixed crystal strengthening by an increased silicon content and/or a complex mixed crystal strengthening by an increased content of copper, chromium, nickel.

Method of manufacturing microalloyed structural steel

A method of improving the surface quality of a continuously cast slab, particularly a thin slab having a maximum cast thickness of 100 mm, wherein the slab is covered with a casting slag film and a layer of scale, and wherein the slab is descaled after casting and is rolled in a finishing train. A reaction agent, which is different from water, is applied onto the slab prior to descaling or during descaling. The application of the reaction agent may be preceded by a conventional hydraulic, mechanical or pneumatic removal of the layer of scale which covers the slab.

A method and a plant for rolling hot-rolled wide strip from continuously cast thin slabs of ferritic/pearlitic microalloyed structural steels with a microalloy with vanadium and/or with niobium and/or with titanium in a CSP plant or compact strip production plant, wherein the cast slab strand is supplied divided into rolling lengths through an equalizing furnace to a multiple-stand CSP rolling train and is continuously rolled in the CSP rolling train into hot-rolled wide strip, is then cooled in a cooling stretch and is reeled into coils. For achieving optimum mechanical properties in hot-rolled wide strip by thermomechanical rolling, a controlled structure development is carried out when the thin slabs travel through the CSP plant.
