An automated cargo delivery system is provided, including an automated guided vehicle having a housing defining a recess therein and a propulsion system configured to move the housing. The recess may be configured to receive a plurality of swappable carriers each having a uniform width in a horizontal direction and a uniform height in a vertical direction perpendicular to the horizontal direction. Each of the swappable carriers may be configured to be engaged within the recess. The plurality of swappable carriers may include a first swappable carrier and a second swappable carrier. A method of delivering cargo with the automated guided vehicle is also provided. The method may include alternatingly inserting and engaging the first swappable carrier and the second swappable carrier into the recess of the automated guided vehicle.

Embodiments herein describe a system that includes a scanner that captures images of a package. The scanner processes the image to identify a destination for the package. For example, the scanner may transmit bar code data identified in the image to an inventory tracking system which issues commands to an item-sortation machine for routing the package to its destination. The images of the package captured by the scanner may include private information that is not needed or used to determine the destination of the package. To protect private information in the package, the scanner assigns an obfuscated ID to the package which the scanner, inventory tracking system, and item-sortation machine can use to pass messages corresponding to the package. After processing the image to identify the destination (e.g., data encoded in a bar code), the scanner can erase the image.

Extensible machine workflow and event reporting protocol

Cable robots may be used to automatically load items onto one or more surfaces in any environment. An item may be received on a carrier that is connected to tensioning actuators of a cable robot by one or more cables in tension. The actuators of the robot may be manipulated in concert to move the carrier from a first position to a second position, which may be fixed or in motion, at which the item may be expelled from the carrier. The carrier may include induction wheels and/or conveyors for receiving the item thereon and for expelling the item therefrom. The cable robot may be provided in series with a conveyor and mounted to a frame, and used to load items onto a delivery vehicle, such that the frame may be withdrawn as items are loaded.

Techniques for distributing updated executable instructions for machine controller systems may be described herein. For example, a machine controller system may initiate or execute into a boot-loader environment, in response to a first boot cycle, that is configured to communicate with a server computer and receive one or more portions of code. The one or more portions of code may be received and compiled into executable instructions which may be updated executable instructions for the machine controller system. The updated executable instructions may be stored in the external memory of the machine controller system thereby overwriting any previously stored executable instructions. A pointer file of the external memory may be updated to re-direct to the updated executable instructions which may be applied to the machine controller system in response to a second boot cycle of the machine controller system.
