A method includes exchanging data between a chip card and a terminal in a contact-based manner via a contact field. The method comprises the steps of: activating a first contact assignment in response to a first communication protocol present on the contact field and occupying a first part of contact surfaces of the contact field; recognizing a change of the communication protocol from a first communication protocol to a second communication protocol with a protocol recognition unit in the chip card; and activating a second contact assignment in response to the recognized second communication protocol occupying a second part of contact surfaces of the contact field. The first and the second part of contact surfaces of the contact field are selected from an ISO-7816-2 contact field having a maximum of six contact surfaces and the second communication protocol requires at least two data lines.

Method for the data exchange between a terminal and a chip card

A subscriber identity module for authenticating a subscriber on a communication network includes: a first set of subscriber identity data for authenticating the subscriber; a second set of subscriber identity data for authenticating the subscriber, with the first set of subscriber identity data differing from the second set of subscriber identity data; and a means for managing the first and second sets of subscriber identity data, with the managing being realized by management functions. The subscriber identity module can be extended to a method for managing the subscriber identity module, to a use of the subscriber identity module in a mobile end device, and to a system comprising subscriber end devices and a remote entity.

Subscriber identity module for authenticating a subscriber on a communication network

A method and a data carrier for contactless communication of a reading device with at least two communication-ready applications located on a portable data carrier. A first communication-readiness signal is generated for a first application and sent to the reading device, the signal having a first identification number that is assigned to the first application and indicates to the reading device the communication readiness of said first application, and a second communication-readiness signal is generated and sent for a second application, the second signal having a second identification number different from the first identification number, which is assigned to said second application and indicates to the reading device the communication readiness of the second application. The identification numbers simulate for the reading device the communication readiness of a data carrier in each case. The reading device thus has the impression of communicating with applications of two separate data carriers.

Data storage medium and method for contactless communication between the data storage medium and a reader

A method and a data carrier for contactless, in particular parallel, communication of a reading device with at least two communication-ready applications located on a portable data carrier. A first communication-readiness signal is generated for a first application and sent to the reading device, the signal having a first identification number that is assigned to the first application and indicates to the reading device the communication readiness of said first application, and a second communication-readiness signal is generated and sent for a second application, the second signal having a second identification number different from the first identification number, which is assigned to said second application and indicates to the reading device the communication readiness of said second application. The identification numbers simulate for the reading device the communication readiness of a data carrier in each case. The reading device thus has the impression of communicating with applications of two separate data carriers.

In a portable data carrier () having a contact-type interface device () and a contactless interface device () a sequencing device () coordinates competingly occurring contact-type and contactless data communications () in such a way that the two data communications () can be carried out sequentially step-by-step and without data loss. The processing of the first data communication via the first interface () is interrupted in order to start a second data communication via the second interface (). After the step of starting, the interrupted processing of the first data communication is continued while at the same time the started second data communication is maintained.

Simultaneous interface use

In a method for reading initialization data (IND) into a chip card, the chip card receives an encrypted authentication value (EAV) and decrypts it to obtain at least one release key (ENK). The release key (ENK) is checked for a match with a release key (ENK') stored on the chip card (). If there is a match, the initialization data (EIND, IND) are received and written to a nonvolatile memory of the chip card. A method for generating a record for initializing a chip card. a chip card and a computer-readable data carrier have corresponding features. The invention is provided in particular for initialization of chip cards by external partners of the chip card manufacturer, whereby as few possibilities of attack as possible are to be offered.

Initialization of a chip card

A portable data carrier () comprising a contact pad () according to ISO 7816-2 as a physical interface for communication has a contactless interface device () for communication with an end device according to a contactless communication protocol via a preset activated contact assignment of the contact pad (), and at least one contact interface device () for communication according to a contact-type communication protocol via a further activated contact assignment of the contact pad (). In an initialization phase of the data carrier () a control device () activates a second contact interface device (), besides an already activated contact interface device (), only when the former does not use a contact assignment of the contact pad () that collides with the contact assignment of the contactless interface device (). The contactless interface device () is activated as a second interface device if the preset contact assignment of the contactless communication protocol does not collide with the contact assignment of the already activated contact interface device ().
