A beacon is provided for automatically probing the wireless environment with a large number of waveforms having different characteristics and measuring the wireless environment to ascertain optimal transmission parameters. The probing system utilizes a software defined radio beacon provided with a stored parameterized reference.

A system is provided for the optimization of wireless networks and more particularly a system for automatically probing the wireless environment with a large number of waveforms having different characteristics and measuring the wireless environment to ascertain optimal transmission parameters. The probing system utilizes a software defined radio beacon provided with stored parameterized reference waveforms in combination with a software defined diagnostic receiver functioning as a correlating spectrum analyzer for correlating incoming signals with the same parameterized reference waveforms for analysis of the wireless environment to determine optimal transmission parameters for transmitters at various nodes on the network.

A method for operating a microradio is provided. The method includes storing first parasitic energy received during a first charging cycle, powering a receiver with the stored first parasitic energy during a listening period, receiving a wireless control signal during the listening period, storing second parasitic energy received during a second charging cycle, selectively powering a transmitter with the stored second parasitic energy, and transmitting a signal responsive to the received wireless control signal.

Moreover, specialized antennas, including microcoils, mini dipoles, and staircase coiled structures are disclosed, with the use of nano-devices further reducing the size of the microradios.

The data is selectively stored to a database using a specialized data filtering method, and a streaming video can be created from the stored data. The streaming video can be created in real time, creating a current video simulation of a specific environment. RFID tag designs and sensors are disclosed that include a dispersive antenna and exhibit greater detection ranges relative to conventional designs. The designs include, for example a transponder having including a rectifier, a radio-frequency identification (RFID) circuit for receiving and responding to interrogation signals, and a frequency dispersion element for receiving a multi-phase input signal and creating a pulse therefrom for input to the rectifier. Frequency-dispersive elements (e.g., antennas) and compatible interrogation waveforms can be used so that the rectifying diodes receive high peak voltage levels relative to the average voltage levels.
