The present invention relates to a crossflow membrane module configured to separate a feed fluid into a permeate fluid and a residue fluid across one or more membrane sheet(s). The crossflow module comprises a second end offset from a first end along the first direction where an inlet is provided at the first end and an outlet is provided at the second end. The one or more membrane sheet(s) each have a first portion and a second portion. A conduit is adjacent to the first side of each membrane sheet and is configured to receive and output the permeate fluid separated from the feed fluid. The second portion of the membrane sheet has a greater permeance for a major component than the first portion such that the second part of the permeate fluid, which is generated by separation across the second portion of the membrane sheet, has a higher concentration of the major component than the first part of the permeate fluid, which is generated by separation across the first portion. The second portion is spaced apart from the first side of the membrane sheet along the second direction thereby causing the second part of the permeate gas to flow towards the first side of the membrane sheet such that the second part of the permeate gas mixes with the first part of the permeate gas thereby reducing the concentration of the minor component in the first part of the permeate gas.

Crossflow membrane module

A process for separating a gas from a gas mixture containing an organic compound gas or vapor by a hybrid separation combining adsorption with membrane gas separation, using membranes selective for the gas over the organic compound. The membranes use a selective layer made from a polymer having repeating units of a fluorinated cyclic structure of an at least 5-member ring, and demonstrate good resistance to plasticization by the organic components in the gas mixture under treatment.

Gas separation using organic-vapor-resistant membranes and PSA

A process for separating nitrogen from a multicomponent gas mixture containing nitrogen and a hydrocarbon, such as natural gas or associated gas, using gas-separation membranes selective for nitrogen over the hydrocarbon. The membranes use a selective layer made from a polymer having repeating units of a fluorinated polymer, and demonstrate good resistance to plasticization by the organic components in the gas mixture under treatment, and good recovery after exposure to liquid aromatic hydrocarbons.

Carbon dioxide gas separation using organic-vapor-resistant membranes

A process for treating a gas mixture containing at least an organic compound gas or vapor and a second gas, such as natural gas, refinery off-gas or air. The process uses two sequential membrane separation steps, one using membrane selective for the organic compound over the second gas, the other selective for the second gas over the organic vapor. The second-gas-selective membranes use a selective layer made from a polymer having repeating units of a fluorinated polymer, and demonstrate good resistance to plasticization by the organic components in the gas mixture under treatment, and good recovery after exposure to liquid aromatic hydrocarbons. The membrane steps can be combined in either order.

A process for separating hydrogen from a multicomponent gas mixture containing hydrogen and a hydrocarbon, using gas-separation membranes selective for hydrogen over the hydrocarbon. The membranes use a selective layer made from a polymer having repeating units of a fluorinated polymer, and demonstrate good resistance to plasticization by the organic components in the gas mixture under treatment, and good recovery after exposure to liquid aromatic hydrocarbons.

Hydrogen gas separation using organic-vapor-resistant membranes

A process for separating a gas from a gas mixture containing the gas and a C hydrocarbon vapor, using gas-separation membranes selective for the gas over the C hydrocarbon vapor. Gas separation using organic-vapor-resistant membranes

Improved membranes and improved membrane processes for treating gas streams containing hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, water vapor and methane, particularly natural gas streams. The processes rely on the availability of two membrane types, one of which has a hydrogen sulfide/methane selectivity of at least about 40 when measured with multicomponent gas mixtures at high pressure. Based on the different permeation properties of the two membrane types, optimized separation processes can be designed.

Sour gas treatment process

Improved membranes and improved membrane processes for treating gas streams containing hydrogen sulfide and methane, plus water vapor, carbon dioxide or both. The processes rely on the availability of two membrane types, one of which has a high hydrogen sulfide/methane selectivity and a high water vapor/methane selectivity, when measured with multicomponent gas mixtures at high pressures. Based on the different permeation properties of the two membrane types, optimized separation processes can be designed. In favorable cases, the processes can simultaneously dehydrate the gas stream and remove the hydrogen sulfide to very low levels.
