A powder spraycoating apparatus includes at least one compressed-air outlet () connected to a source () of compressed air from which it receives compressed air () at such a rate and such pressure that the compressed air at the compressed-air outlet () shall detach the powder's rim layer from the powder duct () and shall concentrate the powder flow toward the radial flow center and make it swirl, at a site near the downstream end () of the powder duct ().

A spray coating device for the electrostatic spray coating of articles. The device includes a spray appliance which is carried by an elongated tubular support housing through which all connecting conduits for the spray appliance extend. The tubular support can be supported by a carrier device, such as a reciprocator, located outside of a spray booth and can extend through a side wall opening in the spray booth for positioning the spray appliance in the spray booth. The spray appliance may be a powder coating material applicator. Preferably, the top surfaces of the spray appliance and the tubular carrier are substantially continuous and without significant steps and of the smallest possible size in order to minimize the deposit of coating material and dust.

Spray coating device for electrostatic spray coating

Electrostatic spray device for coating powder or liquid with at least one charging electrode for electrostatic charging the coating material. The device has at least one, and preferably a plurality, of counter electrodes for the electrostatic removal of free charges (electrons or ions) from the stream of sprayed coating material adjacent a coating material discharge nozzle on the device. The counter electrodes are carrier by a ring which is slipped onto a body of the device. A sleeve screwed onto the body holds the ring in an axial direction on the body. An electrical line for discharging the free charges from the counter electrodes is secured to the ring. The electrical line passes through and is confined in a bore in the body to prevent rotation and axial movement of the ring on the body. When the sleeve is removed from the body, the counter electrode ring and attached electrical line can be withdrawn from the body in the axial direction as a unit.

Contained in the feed gas line (4) and in the dosing gas line (24) of an injector (2) is a pressure setting instrument (6, 26) each which is adjustable with regard to its outlet pressure. A gas flow instrument (46) displays the entire amount of feed air and dosing air flowing per unit of time. This makes it possible to change the pressures of the feed air and the dosing air while nonetheless keeping the entire gas quantity in the powder/gas flow in a simple way at a desired value.

The gun grip (18) and the gun barrel (2) are two bodies that are detachably connected with each other. The fluid line (26) is a stiff tube with two tubular shanks (27, 28) which at said angle extend obliquely to each other. The one tubular shank (28) is removably installed in a channel (25) of the gun grip (18), the other tubular shank (27) in a first channel (10) of the gun barrel (2), each from sides of the gun grip (18) and the gun barrel (2) that border on each other.

Consists essentially of a gun barrel (2) and a carrier (18) which can be fitted into a recess (20) on the rear, bottom end of the gun barrel (2), and of a voltage generator module (14). Formed in the gun barrel (2) is a first channel (10) for a fluid and above it, offset axially to the rear, a straight-line second channel (16) for accommodating the voltage generator module (14). A straight-line third channel (24) through the carrier (18) enables the connection of an electrical connector (40) to the primary side of the voltage generator module (14) by a simple plug connection, without disassembly of other parts. A straight-line fourth channel (25) in the carrier (18) communicates with the first channel (10). This makes all of the channels so short that all parts can be made from plastic without manufacturing problems and can be cleaned quickly.

An electrostatic spray device for coating powder has a powder channel, the downstream end of which has a spray opening for the spraying of the coating powder. At least one gas channel with at least one gas outlet opening is arranged substantially in the radial center of the powder channel upstream of its spray opening, the gas outlet discharging axially in the direction toward the spray opening. At least one electrode, around which gas from the gas channel flows, is located in the gas outlet opening, the downstream electrode end of the electrode terminating substantially at the downstream end thereof. Within the powder channel, directly in front of its spray opening, a funnel-shaped powder channel section is provided for compacting the powder concentration. The gas stream injects electric charges into this section, which the stream of gas has taken up from the electrode. The spray opening preferably has the shape of a slot.

Electrostatic spray coating device for coating with powder

A spraying device for spraying powdered material on an article includes an axially extending powder channel formed in the body of the spraying device which has an upstream region and a downstream end. The material flows out through a spraying opening located at the downstream end. A support extends from the spraying opening, upstream into the powder channel. The support defines a gas channel therein. A plurality of gas outlet orifices, located near the spraying opening, connect the gas channel to the powder channel. The orifices are inclined obliquely in the downstream direction. Electrical electrodes, connected to a high voltage, extend into the orifices and reach to or just beyond the orifices, into the powder channel. The axial distance from the tip of the electrodes to the spraying opening should be about equal to the diameter of the powder channel or according to an alternate embodiment about one half the diameter. The gas flowing past the electrodes picks up and carries electrical charges from the electrodes into the powdered material and further prevents settling of a powdered material on the electrodes.

A pressure regulating device for gaseous and liquid fluids contains a pressure regulator with an inlet and an outlet and a pressure space between them. The pressure in that space is regulated by a shiftable main valve. An actual pressure value chamber is connected with the pressure space. A set value or desired value chamber communicates through a diaphragm with the actual value chamber. The diaphragm is movable to move the valve body for adjusting the actual pressure in the pressure space to the desired pressure in the desired value chamber. An electromagnetic set-point adjuster adjusts the pressure in the desired value chamber. The adjuster includes a set-value transducer, with an actual value sensor which is exposed to the pressure in the pressure space, and the transducer produces an electric signal corresponding to that pressure. That signal is compared with a set-value signal for establishing a signal which controls the electromagnetic set-point adjuster to set the desired value for the pressure in the desired value chamber which, in turn, will set the pressure in the actual pressure value chamber and therefore the pressure in the pressure space.

Pressure regulating device for gaseous and liquid fluids

A spray-coating control system for automatically spraying articles moved through a spray-coating region by a conveyor is disclosed. A pulse generating means such as a shaft encoder, which is connected to the conveyor, generates conveyor movement pulses in response to movement of the conveyor. These pulses are processed by a timing signal generating circuit to produce timing signals at a fraction of the frequency of the conveyor movement pulses and in synchronism therewith. The timing signals are used to control the operation of the sprayer synchronously with the movement of the articles through the spray-coating region. Hangers for suspending the articles from the conveyor are nominally equally spaced along the conveyor. These hangers can, however, be positioned at varying distances from one another along the conveyor due to stretching of local sections of the conveyor. In order for the timing signals to be generated at a frequency representative of the true movement of the hangers, and therefore the true movement of the articles to be sprayed, even when the distance between hangers varies, the hangers serve as signal elements and are sensed by a hanger detector which generates a hanger detection signal generated every time a hanger is sensed. Each of these hanger detection signals resets the timing signal generating circuit which then begins to operate in response to pulses from the pulse generating means and generates a timing signal each time a first predetermined number of pulses from the pulse generating means has been received, until a second predetermined number of timing signals has been received.

Spray coating control system

A spray coating system for spray coating articles as they move through a spray-coating region is disclosed. A conveyor sequentially transports a plurality of articles through the spray-coating region. A plurality of hangable members are located at spaced locations along the conveyor, each hangable member being adapted to received, at the option of the user, a single member to be spray coated whereby each hangable member may, or may not, have a member to be sprayed associated with it. Conveyor movement pulses having a frequency representative of the speed of the conveyor are generated. A start signal is also generated whenever a hangable member having an article associated with it reaches an initial position upstream of the spray-coating region. The articles are sprayed as they move through the spray-coating region in a manner determined by the start signals and the conveyor movement pulses.
