The present invention relates to a process of storing energy through the conversion of thermal energy and subsequent power generation by means of a gas turbine set with compressor, expander and power generator, with at least one and with a second low-temperature reservoir, and a high-temperature reservoir with bulk material as the heat storage medium, the electric energy is stored in the form of high-temperature heat above the turbine outlet temperature in a thermal reservoir, that during the power generation phase a compressed gas from the compressor is heated in a low-temperature reservoir to a temperature near the turbine outlet temperature and subsequently heated in a high-temperature reservoir with stored heat from electric power to a temperature level of at least the turbine inlet temperature, and that the ratio between the bed height in flow direction and the mean particle diameter of the bulk material in the high-temperature reservoir is at least 10.

The present invention relates to a process for improving energy supply when heating and melting a scrap bulk wherein a preheated oxidizing gas with addition of fossil fuels melts a channel into the scrap bulk and further energy supply occurs through this channel. A significant improvement of the process is achieved by supplying hot blast to the scrap bulk from the top.

The invention relates to a device for measuring a mass flow, comprising a measuring wheel () that is supported by a shaft () and that is driven and impinged axially by the mass flow. Said wheel deflects the flow, giving it both radial and tangential speed components. The shaft bears an actuation spur wheel (), which engages with an intermediate spur wheel () that is held in position by a force measuring device () and has a second meshing with a drive spur wheel () that is driven by a drive motor (). The diameter of the actuation spur wheel () is more than 0.3 fold, preferably 0.5 to 1 of the diameter of the measuring wheel (). The invention relates to a method for smelting reduction of metal ores involving a combination process wherein the metal ores are partly reduced in one or more stages and then completely reduced to metal in a melt-down reactor. The combination process comprises at least three process units, and the melt-down reactor forms one process unit. The partial reduction of the metal ores is performed in at least two further process units. A different waste gas is produced in each of these at least three process units.

C. in an adjoining chamber.

To save energy in the production of steel in an electric arc furnace while increasing the total input of energy, the employment of carbonaceous fuels and oxygen-containing gases is proposed. The oxygen or the oxygen-containing gases are led into the furnace in the upper part of the furnace through stationary top blow-in devices (4) into the space between the pitch circle of the electrodes (10) and the furnace wall (3). The resulting intense gas flow repeatedly sucks in the reaction gases arising from the scrap or the melt being formed and burns them. The heat thus set free is transferred to the scrap and/or the melt with a thermal efficiency of at least 70%. By nozzles (2) arranged below the surface of the bath, and preferably in the furnace floor, preferably oxidizing gases are led into the melt and solid materials, particularly carbonaceous fuels, are supplied to the melt through one or more hollow electrodes (6) with an abrasion-resistant cladding. With this process, increased energy input into the electric arc furnace becomes possible, and thus the melting down time can be shortened and the economy of the process improved.

A method for the melt reduction of iron ores, in which iron oxide in the liquid state is substantially reduced and the energy required for the heat balance of the process is generated by adding carbonaceous fuels to the melt and by afterburning the resulting reaction gases, mainly CO and H.sub.2. The reaction gases are afterburned successively two or more times in oxygen-containing gas jets that blow into reaction spaces which are effectively independent of each other.
