The present invention relates to nonwoven webs or fabrics. In particular, the present invention relates to nonwoven webs having superior abrasion resistance and excellent softness characteristics. The nonwoven materials comprise monocomponent fibers having a surface comprising a polyethylene, said nonwoven material having a fuzz/abrasion of less than 0.7 mg/cm. The present invention is also related to fibers having a diameter in a range of from 0.1 to 50 denier, said fibers comprising a polymer blend, wherein the polymer blend comprises: from 40 weight percent to 80 weight percent (by weight of the polymer blend) of a first polymer which is a homogeneous ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin interpolymer having: a melt index of from about 1 to about 1000 grams/10 minutes, and a density of from 0.870 to 0.950 grams/centimeter, and from 74 to 20 percent by weight of a second polymer which is an ethylene homopolymer or an ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin interpolymer having a melt index of from about 1 to about 1000 grams/10 minutes, and preferably a density which is at least 0.01 grams/centimetergreater than the density of the first polymer.

Fibers for polyethylene nonwoven fabric

The present invention relates to soft touch fibers and nonwoven fabrics made from such fibers. The fibers comprise an incompatible polymer system which leads to the soft touch quality. The fibers comprise a mixture of at least two thermoplastic polymers each having different viscosities and wherein the mixture has an interfacial tension from about 0.5 to about 20 mN/m, and wherein the mixture comprises a portion of the fiber surface. The fibers may include from 40-98 percent of a polyolefin continuous phase and from 2 to 60 weight percent of an amorphous thermoplast dispersed phase, such as polystyrene or polyamide.

Fibers formed from immiscible polymer blends

The subject invention provides a flexible, protective, integral liner comprising at least one first polymer which is a homogeneous linear or substantially linear ethylene/&agr;-olefin interpolymer having a density of from 0.850 g/cm to 0.920 g/cm , and at least one second polymer which is an ethylene/&agr;-olefin interpolymer having a density of from 0.905 g/cm to 0.935 g/cm , provided that the density or the second polymer is at least 0.002 g/cm greater than the density of the first polymer. In preferred embodiments, the liner will further comprise an ignition resistance additive. The liners of the invention exhibit an excellent balance of flexibility and strength, and, when an ignition resistance additive is employed, excellent ignition resistance.
