A mesh network includes domain(s) of multiple nodes interconnected through links and in which there are gateway(s) connecting a domain to another network. The domain(s), their multiple nodes, and their links are part of a topology. A set of primary and backup routing paths, each including an ST that includes the selected gateway and route to that selected gateway for nodes in the domain, for a selected one of the gateway(s) is accessed or determined. Schedule(s) to be used by node(s) in the mesh network over one or more scheduling cycles are accessed or determined. Based on status of link(s) between nodes and on the schedule(s), switching is performed to a selected one of the primary or backup routing paths for the selected gateway. Routing in the mesh network is caused to be modified based on the selected routing path. Information is sent to nodes for the paths and schedules.

The invention allows anonymization of user identifications associated with telecommunication traffic measurement data that is fast, secure, and easy to use with distributed traffic measurements. Acquired user identification is input as an initialization vector to a block cipher. The block cipher is executed in cipher-block chaining mode to output a ciphertext. The output ciphertext is provided for use as an anonymized user identification in place of the user identification in further processing of the telecommunication traffic measurement data.

In the present invention, packets are routed in a distributed and dynamic manner via an internal packet-switched telecommunication network comprising edge devices. A data packet is received from an external telecommunication network to a source edge device, wherein there is determined the address of the next-hop corresponding to the destination address prefix of the received data packet. The address and network interface of the target edge device corresponding to the determined next hop are determined and there is generated a transmission packet addressed to the determined target edge device, the transmission packet comprising the received data packet and the determined address of the next hop and the determined network interface of the target edge device. The generated transmission packet is transmitted from the source edge device to the target edge device via one or more internal telecommunication networks at the data link layer level. The data packet is sent further via the network interface of the target edge device based on the next-hop address in question.
