A network element of a cable television (CATV) network, comprising at least a first and a second downstream amplifier stage; a first signal path comprising a first equalizer and a second signal path comprising a second equalizer between the first and the second amplifier stage; a switch configured to connect the first equalizer or the second equalizer to be used between the first and the second amplifier stage; a sampling circuit configured to provide a first sampling signal associated with the first signal path and a second sampling signal associated with the second signal path from an output of the second amplifier stage; and a control unit configured to control the switch to connect the first signal path or the second signal path to be used between the first and the second amplifier stage based on said first and second sampling signals.

Arrangement for adjusting frequency response

A network element of a cable television (CATV) network, comprising an input for upstream signal transmission; one or more diplex filters () connectable to said input, the diplex filters () comprising bandpass filters for different upstream and downstream frequency bands; a plurality of components arranged to form an upstream signal path, wherein at least one of said components is an upstream amplifier (); means () for detecting a type of the diplex filter connected between said input and the upstream signal path; means () for determining a control signal for adjusting bias current of the upstream amplifier (), wherein the control signal is based on at least a type of the diplex filter; and means for adjusting the bias current of the upstream amplifier () based on the control signal.

Arrangement for controlling power consumption

A network element of a cable television network includes at least a first and a second upstream amplifier stage, a first attenuator and a first equalizer between the first and the second amplifier stage, and a second attenuator after the second upstream amplifier stage in upstream signal path direction. A target value is determined for total attenuation of the components of the amplifier. The total attenuation is a sum of attenuations of the first attenuator, the first equalizer, and the second attenuator. The attenuation of the first equalizer is preset. The attenuation of the first attenuator is set to a maximum value such the sum of the attenuations of the first attenuator and the first equalizer is below a first threshold value. The attenuation of the second attenuator is set such that the total attenuation reaches the target value.

Arrangement for aligning upstream path

A network element of a cable television (CATV) network, comprising a first input for downstream signal transmission; a plurality of components arranged to form a downstream signal path, wherein at least one of said components is a downstream amplifier (); a second input for upstream signal transmission; a plurality of components arranged to form an upstream signal path, wherein at least one of said components is an upstream amplifier (); means () for inputting a control signal for adjusting one or more amplification parameters of the downstream amplifier; and means () for adjusting one or more amplification parameters of the upstream amplifier, wherein said one or more amplification parameters of the upstream amplifier are automatically calculated on the basis of the one or more amplification parameters of the downstream amplifier.

Arrangement for adjusting amplification

A network element of a cable television (CATV) network, said network element comprising one or more amplifier units for amplifying downstream signal transmission for digital output into one or more output channels; means for detecting output power of all active digital output channels; means for providing a predetermined correlation between the detected output power of said active digital output channels and a corresponding minimum bias current for said one or more amplifier units; and means for adjusting the bias current of said one or more amplifier units on the basis of the predetermined correlation.

Arrangement for CATV amplifier control

A network element () of a cable television (CATV) network, comprising an input () for upstream signal transmission; at least two diplex filters () configured to be connected to said input (), a first diplex filter () comprising a bandpass filter for a first upstream frequency band and a second diplex filter () comprising a bandpass filter for a second upstream frequency band; a switch () for connecting one of said at least two diplex filters to said input; wherein the network element is configured to be remotely controlled by a headend of the CATV network for selecting the diplex filter.

Arrangement for CATV network

A network element of a cable television (CATV) network, comprising an input for signal transmission; at least two diplex filters configured to be connected to said input, a first diplex filter comprising bandpass filters for a first upstream and downstream frequency bands and a second diplex filter comprising bandpass filters for a second upstream and downstream frequency bands, wherein an upper frequency edge of the second upstream frequency band is higher than an upper frequency edge of the first upstream frequency band and higher than or equal to a lower frequency edge of the first downstream frequency band and a lower frequency edge of the second downstream frequency band is higher than the upper frequency edge of the second upstream frequency band; a control circuit for measuring energy of radio frequency signals below said second downstream frequency band; and a switch for connecting one of said at least two diplex filters to said input, wherein said control circuit is configured to control the switch to connect the first diplex filter to said input in response to the energy of radio frequency signals below said second downstream frequency band exceeding a threshold value; or connect the second diplex filter to said input in response to the energy of radio frequency signals below said second downstream frequency band at most reaching the threshold value.
