An effective SINR mapping based approach can be used to average the MI or RBIR values corresponding to narrowband SINR values in frequency between the resource blocks of the E-UTRA grid structure and then to estimate the downlink radio link quality from the averaged mutual information domain value by mapping it back to wideband SINR value covering the whole or partial E-UTRA system bandwidth. This wideband SINR value can then be further averaged in time and used as a downlink radio link quality estimate for E-UTRA radio link monitoring. Mutual information based effective SINR mapping is one example of an effective SINR mapping based approach.

Mutual information based signal to interference plus noise ratio estimator for radio link monitoring

There is determined an amount of available memory that is allocated for automatic repeat-request data. Then for each of a plurality of received data transmissions, an ncompression level is selected, in dependence at least in part on the amount of available memory, from among N possible compression levels for storing the respective received data transmission. In one specific embodiment each of the received data transmissions represents one HARQ process, and the ncompression level is selected from comparing an amount of memory needed to store the respective received data transmission and all other received data transmissions representing parallel HARQ processes as compressed according to the ncompression level against the determined amount of available memory. An algorithm iteratively checks the amount of memory needed for each of the N possible compression levels, from least compressed to most compressed in this specific embodiment.

Adaptive control for efficient HARQ memory usage

A method for compensating the bias in estimates by utilizing the configured channel estimation filter bank. The method comprises selecting a filter from a predefined set of filters based on channel parameters, and producing at least one radio channel coefficient by applying the selected filter. An input to the filter comprises raw channel estimates, and an output of the filter comprises at least one biased channel coefficient after filtering. The method further comprises producing a radio link quality based on the at least one biased channel coefficient and/or the selected filter. During the estimation, the method comprises removing bias based on the selected filter and/or a filter configuration.

Bias removal of radio link quality estimates

A method, apparatus, and computer program for estimating a rank, i.e. the number of uncorrelated spatial channels, of a radio channel are provided. The rank estimation is carried out by examining mutual proportions of a first eigenvalue and a second eigenvalue of a two-by-two channel matrix representation with a test function including elements of a solution of roots of a quadratic characteristic equation of the two-by-two channel matrix representation, wherein the test function comprises a discriminant of the solution of the roots of the quadratic characteristic equation without a square root operation.

A receiver for a telecommunication system, including a radio frequency unit connected to at least one antenna and configured to receive using a multitude of channels, and an estimator configured to estimate a first signal to interference and noise estimate dependent on a noise covariance matrix and channel vector, and estimate a second signal to interference and noise estimate dependent on the first signal to interference and noise estimate and a bias correction term.

Receiver

A receiving method and a receiver of a telecommunication system are provided. The receiver comprises one or more antennas, a radio frequency unit connected to the antennas for receiving signals transmitted by one or more transmitters using a multitude of channels, and an estimator. The estimator is configured to select one or more channel pairs, each channel of each channel pair being a given distance from each other, determine symbol estimates for the signals of the channels of the channel pairs, remove the effect of data modulation from the signals of the channels of the channel pairs, obtain noise estimates by subtracting the signals of the channels of the channel pairs from each other, and determine a noise covariance matrix for the desired channel on the basis of the obtained noise estimates.
