A method needed in speech recognition for forming a pronunciation model in a telecommunications system comprising at least one portable electronic device and server. The electronic device is arranged to compare the user's speech information with pronunciation models comprising acoustic units and stored in the electronic device. A character sequence is transferred from the electronic device to the server. In the server, the character device is converted into a sequence of acoustic units. A sequence of acoustic units is sent from the server to the electronic device.

Arrangement of speaker-independent speech recognition

A method for detecting pauses in speech signals is disclosed in which the frequency spectrum is divided into two or more sub-bands. Samples of the signals on the sub-bands are stored at intervals, the energy levels of the sub-bands are determined on the basis of the stored samples, a power threshold value (thr) is determined, and the energy levels of the sub-bands are compared with said power threshold value (thr) . A subband minimum is set and a detection time limit is set so that, in a noise situation, a speech pause can be verified by checking to determine if each pause detected remains for the duration of the detection time limit and if a pause is detected in at least said minimum subbands.

In a speech recognition method and apparatus, according to the present invention, feature vectors produced by an analysing unit of a speech recognition device are modified for compensating the effects of noise. According to the invention, feature vectors are normalized using a sliding normalization buffer ( ). By means of the method according to the invention, the performance of the speech recognition device improves in situations, wherein the speech recognition device's training phase has been carried out in a noise environment that differs from the noise environment of the actual speech recognition phase.

Method and a device for recognizing speech

A string of symbols of a defined length from input text is arranged onto a display in a constellation, which corresponds to the configuration of the keys on a device's keyboard. In order to edit the string displayed in the constellation, the symbol of the string to be corrected at any one time is selected by pressing once the key that corresponds to it according to locational correspondence between the constellation and the configuration of the keys on the keyboard. The selected symbol may also be replaced. In addition, with each new use of the key the symbol is replaced with one other symbol and in this way the desired symbol is selected with sequential presses of the key.

A method for recognizing speech commands includes defining a time window for recognizing a speech command. A first confidence value is determined for a first recognition result. If the first confidence value is greater than or equal to a first threshold value, the first recognition result is selected as the speech command, otherwise a second recognition stage is performed where the time window is extended. A second confidence value is determined for the second recognition result. If the second confidence value is greater than or equal to the first threshold value, a command word selected at the second recognition stage is selected as the speech command, otherwise the first and second recognition results are compared to each other to determine a probability that they are substantially the same. If the probability exceeds a predetermined value, the command word selected at the second stage is selected as the speech command.

Method in the recognition of speech and a wireless communication device to be controlled by speech

According to the invention, speech recognition can be limited to a smaller number making use of commands ( ) given by a user. By means of a method and device, according to the invention, it is also possible to activate a speech recognition device by making use, in the activation, of an existing keyboard or a touch-sensitive screen of the device. A method, according to the invention, provides the user with a logical way to activate the speech recognition device in the device simultaneously providing an improved capacity of the speech recognition device. According to the invention, it is also possible to carry out the speech recognition process by making use of commands given by the user irrespective of how the speech recognition device itself is activated. According to an embodiment of the invention, the device comprises a touch-sensitive screen or surface, in which case the information about a single letter or several letters written on the screen is transmitted to the speech recognition device, whereupon speech recognition is limited to words, wherein the letters in question occur. Speech recognition is most preferably limited to a name beginning with the letter written on the touch screen by the user.

A method for use in a speech recognition system in which a speech waveform to be modelled is represented by a set of feature extracted parameters in the time domain, the method comprising dividing individual ones of one or more of said feature extracted parameters to provide for each divided feature extracted parameter a plurality of frequency channels, and demodulating at least one of the plurality of frequency channels to provide at least one corresponding baseband frequency signal.

A method for selecting a telephone number by means of voice control, the telephone numbers which can be selected are stored, and for each telephone number which can be selected at least one identifier, such as a name is stored. The invention includes a method and an apparatus for controlling a telephone, particularly a mobile telephone used in a cellular network. Advantageously the user interface of the telephone is voice-controlled, whereby dialling can be made without the use of hands e.g. when driving a car. In the method according to the invention, the task of a speech recognizer can be made easier using phone numbers in the phone's memory (102), ie. on the basis of a check command given by the user the phone selects the number to be recognized from among the numbers stored in its memory, whereby also an incorrect recognition can be automatically corrected.
