The roll of a paper/board machine or finishing machine has an inner elongated structure () which is at least partly comprised of composite material, including reinforcing fibers in matrix material. The structure is preferably comprised of a combination of metallic material and composite material.

In a paper or board machine drying line after the wire section, during dewatering a web's (W) width is affected in a direction crosswise to the web's traveling direction. Starting from an edge, at least one device (A,B) brings about a force effect of a desired magnitude which is directed all the way to a desired arbitrary crosswise web position in order to modify web characteristics. A device in a paper or board machine line after the wire section has means for processing the web and for dewatering. The paper or board machine line after the wire section further has at least one device (A;B) for directing a force effect at a desired partial area (WS) of the web (W) in the cross machine direction in order to modify the web's characteristics profile in the cross machine direction.

Method and device in a paper or board machine line for straining paper

A processing device and method applying the same for processing a coated or uncoated fibrous web is provided. The device comprises a belt configured to extend around a guiding element, at least one counter-element being disposed outside said belt to provide a contact area with the belt, such that the belt and the counter-element establish therebetween a web processing zone for passing a web to be processed therethrough. The processing zone length is defined by the disposition of the belt's guiding element and/or by the configuration of the counter-elements. The contact pressure applied to a web in the processing zone is within the range of between about 0.01 MPa and about 200 MPa.

A beam structure for a web forming machine is arranged to be supported by its end components () on the web forming machine. The beam structure includes a casing structure () of a thin-sheet material, inside which a stiffener structure () is arranged. In addition, the casing structure () and the stiffener structure () are secured to each other to create a load-bearing beam structure.

An applicator device () applies surface size to at least one side of a web (W). A pressure effect is applied to the web (W) by subjecting the web (W) to an underpressure and/or to an overpressure such that surface size is forced to penetrate into the pores of the web. Most advantageously, an underpressure is created that sucks applied surface size from the surface of the web (W) into the pores in the inner layers. Surface size is applied to a web first side (W) and a vacuum effect is applied to the web's opposite side (W2) to cause air to flow through the web (W) such that surface size moves from the first side (W) in the direction of the second side (W) into the web (W). Correspondingly, both sides of the web (W) can be treated in successive stages.

Method and apparatus in the surface sizing of a paper or board web

A method for fitting a tubular roll shell () of a roll () in a paper or board machine. In the method, the roll shell () is supported on a stationary roll shaft () by means of hydrostatic slide bearing elements ('), acting on the roll shell () in radially opposite directions, at least in the direction of a plane co-directional with a first plane or a plane parallel to a primary loading (F) and in a plane substantially lateral to a plane co-directional with the primary loading (F). The slide bearing elements (&#x2032;) are loaded hydraulically by means of a pressure fluid. The lateral bearing elements (&#x2032;) acting in radially opposite directions have a hydrostatic pressure thereof adjusted by means of a regulator () having feedback connection with the main bearing elements (&#x2032;) acting in the direction of a plane co-directional with the primary loading (F) to comply at a predetermined ratio with the maximum hydrostatic pressure of the main bearing elements (&#x2032;) acting on the roll shell (). The invention relates further to an apparatus for applying the method.

Roll in a paper or board machine

A multi-roll calender, supercalender, soft calender or equivalent has at least one nip (YN, PN, KN, PN, AN) profiling a fibrous web (W) which is being calendered. A shoe roll () constitutes at least one of the calender rolls which define the nip. A shell () of the shoe roll is of a composite material, and the shoe roll is provided with internal shell-loading shoes () for profiling the shell, the nip and/or the fibrous web.

Water hydraulics are used in a paper or board machine, in particular in applications requiring lubrication and in the like in which an operating medium is subjected to pressure. A chemical which is used in the stock system (A) of the process is mixed with the water used in water hydraulics before the water is passed to a site of application ( ) in order to raise the viscosity of the water and chemical mixture to a level required by the site of application ( ). The water and chemical mixture is passed ( ) after that to the site of application ( ) and circulated through the same at least once, after which said water and chemical mixture is recovered ( ) and passed to the stock system (A) of the process as diluted to a suitable concentration.

Method for using water hydraulics in a paper or board machine

The present invention relates to an end packing ( ) for a deflection compensated roll. The roll including a stationary shaft ( ) and a roll shell ( ), bearing-mounted rotatably therearound and having each end thereof provided with a shaft-enclosing annular end cap ( ). The end cap ( ) has its surface internal in the axial direction of the roll or its surface external in the axial direction formed with a sealing surface ( ). The end packing elements ( ) are provided with an annular packing member ( ) extending around the shaft ( ) and including a front face, which is directed towards said sealing surface ( ) and which is in contact with the sealing surface ( ) or separated from the sealing surface ( ) by a gap constituting an axially directed narrow slot. The packing member ( ) is provided with elements connected to a supply of compressed air for delivering compressed air into a cavity ( ) between the packing member and the sealing surface, whereby the compressed air striving to flow between the packing member's front face and the sealing surface into and out of the roll functions as a seal.

End packing for a deflection compensated roll

A deflection compensated roll for a paper/board or finishing machine includes a stationary roll shaft ( ), and a roll shell ( ) structured and arranged to be rotatable around the same and mounted with slide bearing elements ( ) upon the roll shaft ( ). The slide bearing elements are provided with hydraulic fluid feeding means for loading the slide bearing elements with a hydraulic fluid. The roll is intended to form a nip together with a counter roll. The hydraulic fluid feeding device is provided with control elements, whereby the slide bearing elements ( ) acting in the direction of a nip load (F) are loadable in such a way that the roll shell ( ) is able to perform a stroke relative to the roll shaft ( ) radially of the roll or to remain substantially immobilized relative to the roll shaft ( ).

Deflection compensated roll for paper/board or finishing machine

The invention relates to a slide shoe assembly for a roll ( ) in a paper/board machine or a finishing machine, said roll ( ) comprising a stationary axle ( ), around which is rotatably mounted a cylindrical roll shell ( ), a clearance ( ) formed between the axle ( ) and an inner surface ( ) oF the roll shell ( ) being fitted with loading elements ( ) operated by a pressurized hydraulic fluid and provided with slide shoes ( ) which are loadable against the inner surface ( ) of the roll shell ( ) for controlling the distribution of a nip pressure in a nip (N) established with a counter roll ( ).
