Presented are advanced control systems providing tire change modes for vehicles with adjustable ride-height suspension systems, methods for making/using such systems, and vehicles equipped with such systems. A method of operating a vehicle includes a controller receiving an input signal indicative of a tire change event for the vehicle, and determining a location of a tire associated with the tire change event. In response to receiving the input signal, the controller determines if a real-time slope of the vehicle is greater than a preset maximum secure slope; if not, the controller prompts a user to prepare the vehicle for the tire change event. After prompting the user to prep the vehicle, the controller commands the vehicle's ride height suspension system to lower the ride height of the tire's corner module to a predefined lowered height and raise the ride height of all other corner module to a predefined raised height.

Smart vehicle systems and control logic with tire change modes for vehicles with adjustable ride height suspensions

Methods and systems for optimizing fuel economy and maintaining particulate emissions below a threshold of an engine system in a vehicle. An engine system has port fuel injection, direct injection, variable compression ratio, and independent compression/expansion. A processor predicts settings for the four systems that optimize for a fuel economy that is maximized. A particulate rate of the engine system is computed based on the settings. A determination is made of whether the particulate rate is below a threshold. When the particulate rate is below the threshold, command signals are delivered to actuators of the systems to move to the settings. When the threshold is exceeded, the settings are revised to maintain the particulate below the threshold while optimizing for fuel economy.

Port-direct injection engine methods and systems optimizing fuel economy with particulate control

Methods and systems for enabling regeneration of a particulate filter of an engine system are provided. In one embodiment, a method includes: receiving, by a processor, a request for particulate filter regeneration; in response to the request, determining, by the processor, at least one of a compression ratio and an expansion ratio; generating, by the processor, control signals to actuators of the engine system to adjust the at least one of the compression ratio and the expansion ratio to achieve a desired exhaust temperature; generating, by the processor, control signals to actuators of the engine system to optimize torque output based on the desired exhaust temperature, engine speed, and a desired engine load; and initiating, by the processor, regeneration of the particulate filter based on the command signals.

Compression ratio methods and systems for particulate filter regeneration

A cold start control module for a direct injection engine includes a fuel flow determination module and a cylinder activation/deactivation module. The fuel flow determination module determines a requested fuel flow. The cylinder activation/deactivation module deactivates at least one of cylinders when the requested fuel flow exceeds a maximum fuel flow of the fuel pump during cold start.

Method of starting spark-ignition direct injection (SIDI) engines

A stochastic pre-ignition (SPI) mitigation system includes a detection module, an engine load module, and an evaluation module. The detection module generates a pre-ignition determination signal indicating detection of a SPI event in a cylinder of an engine. The engine load module determines load on the engine and generates an engine load signal based on the load. The evaluation module determines whether to operate in a single-pulse mode or a multi-pulse mode and generating a mode signal to operate in a selected one of the single-pulse mode and the multi-pulse mode based on the pre-ignition determination signal and the engine load signal. The single pulse mode includes injecting a single pulse of fuel into the cylinder during a first per combustion cycle of the cylinder. The multi-pulse mode includes injecting multiple pulses of fuel into the cylinder during a second combustion cycle of the cylinder.

Stochastic pre-ignition mitigation system

An engine system comprises a temperature determination module, a temperature comparison module, and a fuel injection control module. The temperature determination module determines an engine temperature. The temperature comparison module compares the engine temperature and a temperature threshold. The fuel injection control module adjusts a timing of fuel injection from a first range of an intake stroke to a second range of the intake stroke based on the comparison. The first range and the second range do not overlap.

Injection advancement for piston cooling in spark ignition direct injection engines

A method for controlling the operation of at least one fuel injector in a four stroke internal combustion engine is provided. The method includes the steps of initiating fuel injection into a combustion chamber during an expansion stroke of the engine, injecting fuel into the combustion chamber during an exhaust stroke of the engine, injecting fuel into the combustion chamber during an intake stroke of the engine, and terminating fuel injection into the combustion chamber during a compression stroke of the engine.
