A device for control of the pouring process in molds, wherein molten metal is adapted to be tapped from a vessel (e.g. a pouring furnace, a ladle or a tundish) provided with a stopper or other flow-control valve means. Between the vessel and the mold at least one transmitter coil and at least one receiver coil are positioned for measuring the degree of filling of the mold, suitably in a pouring cup. The output signal from the receiver coil is supplied to a signal processing device for control of the flow-control valve means.

Pouring control device

The invention relates to an apparatus for simultaneous casting of at least two casting moulds or balls. The apparatus comprises a carriage which is movable in the direction of a casting line and is provided with two gutters for transferring molten metal from respective furnace spouts to respective sprues. At least one of these gutters is adjustable in the longitudinal direction of the line.

A melt-transfer device for the protected tapping of molten metal from one vessel to another has a tiltable, cylindrical container with a lid, which is at least partially located in a first end wall in the container. The container is also provided with a melt-tapping pipe which is directed substantially tangentially to the container close to the first-mentioned end wall. In the bottom of the container, in a second end wall, a baffle can be arranged to provide a pocket for a magnesium-containing powder fed into the container through the lid when the container is held in a vertical position.

A stopper means to prevent melt leaving a metallurgical container, comprises at least one stopper rod and a corresponding tapping nozzle having a tap hole for the melt, a plunger being arranged substantially centrally in the stopper rod and being movable up and down through the tapping nozzle in order to prevent blockage of the tap hole. The device is characterized in that the plunger is movable into the tap hole from a normal position, in which the plunger is positioned completely above the maximum level of melt in the container.

A method for continuously pouring molten metal in an initially substantially unfilled tundish having a channel-type inductor having a channel opening into the bottom portion of the tundish, is done by starting the pourings and the continuous sequential steps of applying power to the inductor when its channel is first covered by the poured metal to form a melt level and the static pressure of the metal is low and while increasing the power rapidly so as to cause incipient pinching in the channel and then momentarily rapidly reducing the power so as to prevent pinching; as the metal level further increases so that the metal's static pressure further increases, again increasing the power rapidly so as to again cause incipient pinching in the channel and then again momentarily rapidly reducing the power so as to prevent pinching; and continuing these sequential steps until the tundish is filled.

A channel-type induction furnace of the teapot type comprising a crucible having a bottom, a channel-type inductor in the bottom and having a partially semi-circular channel opening into said bottom, and straight inlet and outlet melt conduits respectively extending to and from the bottom and positioned substantially tangentially with respect to said channel so as to extend straight into and from the channel.
