Extending cellular telecommunication service from a first UE to another device. The first UE may register for cellular telecommunication service with a cellular network using a first cellular service account, using a cellular communication link via a cellular radio. A second device may be discovered and a communication link may be established between the first UE and the second device. The second device may be registered to use cellular telecommunication capability provided by the first UE. Communications between the second device and the cellular network may be conveyed via the communication link between the first UE and the second device and the cellular communication link. Conveying communications between the second device and the cellular network may provide use of the first cellular service account for cellular telecommunication service to the second device.

Extending use of a cellular communication capabilities in a wireless device to another device

A device implementing an adaptive wide area network (WAN) link assessment system may include a processor configured to transmit data to a WAN over a first link on a first wireless interface. The processor may be configured to, responsive to a determination based on connection information that a first escalation condition is satisfied, configure the first link to provide expanded connection information. The processor may be configured to, responsive to a second determination based on the expanded connection information that a second escalation condition is satisfied, perform a probe operation with respect to a server on the WAN over the first link. The processor may be further configured to, when the probe operation is not successfully completed within a predetermined amount of time, begin to transmit the data to the WAN over the second link on the second wireless interface.

Adaptive wide area network link assessment

The present disclosure describes a method for adaptive WiFi roaming, where an electronic device and an access point advertise their networking capability. The networking capability may be, for example, the capability to support at least one enterprise feature. Based on the advertisements transmitted by the electronic device, the access point can determine that the electronic device can support the at least one enterprise feature and may selectively enable the at least one enterprise feature. Additionally, based on advertisements transmitted by the access point, the electronic device can determine that the access point can support the at least one enterprise feature. Based on this mutual determination, the access point and electronic device may continue an association process based on the at least one enterprise feature.

Adaptive Wifi roaming

Some embodiments enable low power mode for wireless local area network (WLAN) subsystem of an electronic device to improve power usage at the electronic device and increase response time of the WLAN subsystem to prioritized application(s). For example, a method includes enabling a sleep mode of the WLAN subsystem of the electronic device. The electronic device maintains a connection with an access point of a wireless network during the sleep mode. The method further includes receiving a request from an application to communicate with the wireless network. The application is included in a list of prioritized applications. In response to determining that a metric associated with the sleep mode does not exceed a power budget, the sleep mode of the WLAN subsystem is suspended and the communication between the application and the access point of the wireless network is enabled (after the suspension of the sleep mode).

Operating low-power associated sleep

An apparatus and methods are provided for automatically detecting and connecting to a Wi-Fi network. In these methods, a wireless device listens for beacons that are sent using a low-power wireless protocol. Once the wireless device detects a first beacon at a first location, the wireless device extracts a first beacon region identifier from the beacon and correlates the first beacon region identifier with a first Wi-Fi network that is located at the first location. Next, the wireless device retrieves a first set of credentials for connecting to the first Wi-Fi network. Once the first set of credentials is retrieved, the wireless device uses the first set of credentials to connect to the first Wi-Fi network.

Method and apparatus for automatically detecting and connecting to Wi-Fi networks

Embodiments for securely determining a separation distance between wireless communication devices is provided. These embodiments include receiving a measurement request and a first random identifier from a first wireless communication device at a second wireless communication device. The embodiments also includes deriving a transient key using the first random identifier, a second random identifier (generated by the second device), and a pre-shared key. The first and second random identifiers, the pre-shared key, and the transient key derived therefrom are shared between the first and second devices, but are not known to any other devices. The embodiments further include encrypting measurement data exchanged between the two devices using the transient key, and using the encrypted measurement data to calculate and verify a separation distance between the devices. The embodiments thus prevent dishonest wireless communication devices from intercepting communications and spoofing a location of one of the two honest devices.

Secure wireless ranging

The present disclosure describes an electronic device that includes an antenna and an interface circuit. The interface circuit communicates, via the antenna, with a companion electronic device and/or a communication hub (e.g., an access point). The companion electronic device may communicate with the communication hub over a wireless network. During operation, the electronic device receives, from the companion electronic device or an archive electronic device, network-state information including an identifier of the companion electronic device, an identifier of the communication hub, or timing-synchronization information for beacons from the communication hub. In some embodiments, the network-state information may further include a channel associated with the connection. Moreover, the electronic device may disable communication via a first communication technique (e.g., Bluetooth) and enable communication via a second communication technique (e.g., WiFi). Furthermore, the electronic device may associate with the communication hub on the wireless network based on the network-state information.

Association based on shared network-state information

Systems, devices, and methods are described for allowing a first device to learn how to connect to a first network using information that a second device obtained about a second network that is related to the first network. The second device can perform a virtual network discovery of the first network on behalf of the first device. The second device can describe how to initiate one or more connections to the first network by modifying the information the second device obtained about the second network. The second device can send the information identifying how to initiate the connections to the first network to the first device. The first device can automatically initiate connections to the first network without requiring user input.

Learned dual band WIFI network association

In order to facilitate reduced power consumption of an electronic device (such as a smartphone) when communicating with another electronic device (such as an access point) in a wireless network, the electronic device may change a frequency of network scans performed by an interface circuit in the electronic device based on a motion profile of the electronic device. In particular, the electronic device may determine the motion profile based on spatial information, such as: acceleration data, orientation data, Global Positioning System data and/or data from the wireless network. Then, the electronic device may change the frequency of the network scans performed by the interface circuit based on the motion profile. In this way, the frequency of the network scans can be reduced when the electronic device is stationary or moving rapidly (such as when a user of the electronic device is driving in a car).

Motion-based adaptive scanning

After detecting an access-intent operation, an electronic device establishes a connection with a second electronic device using a communication protocol. The electronic devices exchange identifiers, and the second electronic device provides information specifying a preferred channel to use with a second communication protocol. Based at least in part on the preferred channel of the second electronic device and on communication contexts of the electronic devices, the electronic device selects a channel and transmits to the second electronic device information specifying the selected channel. The electronic device remotely accesses credential information based on the exchanged identifiers, and using the credential information, the electronic devices establish a secure connection via the selected channel using the second communication protocol. The electronic device determines a distance to the second electronic device using wireless ranging via the secure connection. When the electronic devices are proximate to each other, the electronic device can be unlocked.

Wireless login with secure proximity detection

This document describes multicast communication between wireless devices. A scheduling frame may be wirelessly transmitted by a wireless device. The scheduling frame may include a multicast address indicating a group of intended receiving devices for a payload frame. The scheduling frame may further include scheduling information indicating an order for the group of intended receiving devices to transmit acknowledgement information for the payload frame. A payload frame may also be wirelessly transmitted by the wireless device. The payload frame may include payload information intended for the group of intended receiving devices. Additionally, acknowledgement frames may be wirelessly received by the wireless device from at least a subset of the group of intended receiving devices. The acknowledgement frames may be received according to the order indicated in the scheduling information.
