A cartridge transporting apparatus in which a disk cartridge inserted from an insertion opening is loaded into a cartridge holder in an x-direction in a three-dimensional coordinate and the cartridge holder is transported to a reproducing position in a z-direction perpendicular to the x-direction. The cartridge transporting apparatus comprises a driving roller for transporting the cartridge in its contact with a lower face of the cartridge into the cartridge holder in the x-direction, and a holder transporting mechanism for transporting the cartridge holder in the z-direction. The driving roller continues to rotate also after the holder transporting mechanism starts to transport the cartridge holder toward the reproducing position. In this configuration, the cartridge can be transported reliably.

Cartridge transporting apparatus

A supporting mechanism is provided to be moved between a disc insertion opening and a disc storing device, and a driving roller is rotatably mounted on the supporting mechanism for carrying a disc inserted in the opening toward the disc storing device. The supporting mechanism is moved between the opening and the disc storing device, and the driving roller is driven for carrying the disc from the opening to the disc storing device.

Apparatus for reproducing an optical disc

A disk reproducing apparatus with a plurality of disks arrayed and held therein selects a desired disk for reproduction from the arrayed disks. The disk reproducing apparatus includes an insertion slot which defines an insertion executable position, a disk holding device including a plurality of disks inserted through the insertion slot by arraying the disks in a direction perpendicular to main surfaces of the disks, the disk holding device being movable in a direction of arrangement of the disks, a disk reproducing device having upper and lower surfaces opposing in the direction of arrangement of the disks, the disk reproducing device being movable in the direction of arrangement of the disks, and reproducing a disk to be reproduced at a reproduction executable position at which the upper surface faces the disk to be reproduced. When a disk is to be inserted, the disc reproducing device is placed at a position where the lower surface is positioned near to the insertion executable position in the direction of arrangement of the disks. When a disk is to be reproduced, the disk reproducing device is placed at a position where the distance of the upper surface from the insertion executable position in the direction of arrangement of the disks is smaller than its distance at the time of insertion of a disk. Thereby the reduction in size of the apparatus as a whole and a smooth execution of the reproduction operation are attained.

Disk reproducing apparatus

In a disk reproducing apparatus a plurality of disks each carrying information recorded therein are inserted through an insertion opening and arrayed and held in a predetermined direction and a desired disk is selected for reproduction from the plurality of disks arrayed and held therein. The disk reproducing apparatus comprises a disk holding device including a plurality of trays arranged for holding thereon the plurality of disk respectively, a disk carrying device which carries the disk between the insertion opening and the tray, and a disk reproducing device which is carried to be positioned outside an area where a disk held by the disk reproducing device exists when the disk is not being reproduced and positioned that at least a portion is inside the area where the disk exists, when the disk is being reproduced. The disk carrying device and the disk reproducing device are juxtaposed in a direction in which disks are arrayed when the disk is not being reproduced. With this feature, minimization of the entire size of the apparatus and simplification of the construction are realized.

The disk reproducing apparatus comprises a disk holding device including therein a plurality of trays holding thereon a plurality of disks arrayed in a direction perpendicular to a main surface of the disk, a disk reproducing device positioned at a non-reproduction position outside the disk holding position where disks held by the disk holding means are located when the disk is not reproduced and positioned at a reproducing position where at least a portion thereof overlaps the disk holding position when the disk is reproduced, a reproducing device carrying mechanism for transferring the disk reproducing device between the non-reproducing position and the reproducing position, a disk selecting device for positioning a disk to be reproduced at a specified position to allow the disk reproducing device to move into the reproducing position when reproducing the disk and for moving aside other disks in the direction of the array of disks, and a disk retrieving and transferring device for taking out and transferring the disk to the reproducing position. When reproducing a disk, an operation for transferring the disk reproducing device from the non-reproducing position to the reproducing position and an operation for transferring the disk from the disk holding position to the reproducing position are executed simultaneously.

A CD player has a magazine containing a plurality of trays each of which mounts a CD, and a moving device for moving one of the CDs between the magazine and a playback position. The starting of the operation of the moving device for moving the CD from the playback position to the magazine is detected and a CD start signal is produced. When the CD does not arrive to the magazine after a predetermined time from the production of the CD start signal, the CD is returned to the the playback position and moved from the playback position to the magazine again.

The disc player includes a magazine holder, means for taking a disc tray out of a magazine accommodated in the holder, a turntable, a disc clamper and playback means. The magazine has a front face formed with a surface at one portion and formed with a stepped portion at another portion. The preventing means includes a magazine ejector arm pivotally supported on the magazine holder, and a biasing spring for urging the ejector arm in a direction to eject the magazine out of the magazine holder. If the magazine ejector arm is in contact with the surface, the ejector arm can be fully pivotted because of manual pushing force applied to the magazine. However, if the magazine ejector arm is in contact with the stepped portion due to the insertion of the magazine upsidedown, the ejector arm is lockingly engaged with the stepped portion to terminate its pivotal motion prior to reaching its fully pivotted position.
