An image reading apparatus includes a light source that emits light that is to be applied to an original document, a light receiving portion that receives reflected light, which is reflected off the original document, and multiple light reflection members that guide the reflected light, reflected off the original document, to the light receiving portion. At least one of the multiple light reflection members is used as a light guide to guide light from the light source to the original document.

A document reading device includes: a reading position at which information on a document is read; a light source that radiates light toward the document passing through the reading position; a light receiving section that receives reflected light generated from the light from the light source; and a background reflection section disposed to reflect the light from the light source so as to be received by the light receiving section through the reading position. When the document is not present, the background reflection section reflects an amount of light that is greater than an amount of document-reflected light reflected by the document which is white. The background reflection section is formed by processing a specular surface so as to reflect an amount of light that is less than an amount of specularly reflected light reflected by a specular surface.

According to an aspect of the invention, an image reading apparatus includes a substrate, light emitting elements, a catoptrics system, an imaging lens, a lens position fixing unit, and a reflective surface fixing unit. The plurality of light emitting elements is arranged on the substrate in a line and emits light to a surface of an object to be irradiated. The imaging element is disposed on the substrate and receives light reflected from the surface of the object. The first optical system guides the light emitted from the light emitting elements to the surface of the object. An aspect of the present invention provides an illuminating device including point-light-sources arranged in a line, that emit light; an optical guide member formed by injection molding and one end face of the optical guide member facing the point-light-sources, that guides light emitted from the point-light-sources to a surface to be illuminated such that the light emitted from the point-light-sources is incident on the one end face and the light incident on the one end face exits from the other end face; and first pin marks formed by projection pins used when removing the optical guide member when injection molding, the first pin marks being formed on one of faces of the optical guide member facing in a thickness direction of the optical guide member at the one end face side, and being formed in positions offset from the point-light-sources in a direction along which the point-light-sources are arranged.
