A compact, accurate, and inexpensive laser beam machine combining the simple structure of a two-dimensional stepping motor and features of laser-beam machining. The machine has a rotating shaft (39) capable of rotating about a vertical axis. The shaft (39) is mounted on a frame (61). A mirror (52) which reflects laser beam emitted from a laser is mounted on the shaft. The stepping motor has a mover (20). A second rotating shaft (34) capable of rotating about a vertical axis is mounted on the mover (20). A mirror (51) which reflects the laser beam, reflected by the mirror (52) toward a workpiece, is mounted on the second shaft (34). The rotating shafts (34, 39) are so driven that if the mover (20) shifts, the laser beam is kept focused to the workpiece by the two reflecting mirrors.

A contact detector for movable objects comprises two opposite circular plates in which a plurality of cylindrical depressed portions are equidistantly opened on the same circumferences from a common center axis of the two circular plates, respectively, a plurality of steel balls, having a diameter larger than the diameter of each depressed portion, inserted into corresponding depressed portions of the two circular plates, and hardened layers formed on the portions in contact with the steel balls of the circular plates by pressurizing two circular plates from the opposite sides of respective depressed portions. A portion of the surface of each steel ball is depressed into each recessed portion, and the one circular plate and the steel balls are pressed into contact with the other circular plate by an elastic member. The contact detector further comprises a switch responsive to displacement of one of the two circular plates, and an arm adapted to be in contact with an external portion of a movable body, which is provided on the other circular plate.

A locus interpolation device characterized in that the device is attached to an end of a wrist of a movable structure such as a robot, with a tool supported by the device, and a circular or noncircular locus is interpolated by controlling the operation of the tool independently from that of the movable structure.

The present invention provides a wrist mechanism with three degrees of freedom for an industrial robot, which is compactly formed and to which a tool is mounted. The first degree of freedom is associated with a first input shaft for rotating a wrist portion at a low speed. The second and third degrees of freedom are associated with rotating the tool or tilting the wrist. In order to attain these motions, second and third input shafts concentrically arranged relative to the first input shaft are used for transmitting motion to, through bevel gears, speed reduction mechanisms each symmetrically disposed at right and left sides, and the outputs therefrom are used to drive the tool and wrist.

This invention discloses a contact sensing device for detecting the contact of a moving element such as a welding torch attached to a robot arm with a fixed body. The contact sensing device substantially comprises a support-side member, a work-side member, a spherical bearing mounted on either the support-side member or work-side member, a slide shaft slidably mounted on the spherical bearing, the slide shaft being slidable in an axial direction, an elastic member mounted on the slide shaft for making the work-side member biasingly come into contact with the support-side member, at least three rollers mounted on a first surface of either the support-side member or the work-side member, the rollers capable of coming into contact with a second surface of either the support-side member or the work-side member which opposes the first surface, at least one roller engaging member mounted on the second surface on which one of the rollers runs, and a limit switch actuated by the displacement of the slide shaft.
